Orchard electric grass tent pitch (five person, large)

Liked: The views are amazing, very relaxed and peacefully camp.

Disliked: No hand dryer in the toilets or paper towels.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your reviews and comments. With regard to hand towels and dryers in the toilets, I would refer you to my earlier response in other reviews, but essentially we have tried this and we find the showers/toilets become a sea of wet paper towels, blocking toilets and wet room shower drains.

Orchard electric grass tent pitch (medium, two person)

Liked: Perfect weekend away with a group of friends (couples). The owner was very accommodating and friendly. My electric lead was too small and so he very kindly leant me a longer one. He’s built a huge fire pit with benches away from fellow campers, perfect if there’s a few of you so you’re not disturbing anyone at night. He also supplied the wood and kindling for a fair price. I stayed on the Orchard field which has the benefit of mostly private pitches and my friends stayed on the Paddock field which has the most incredible views! The toilets and showers are regularly cleaned and are spotless with air fresheners and really nice smelling hand wash. There’s a freezer available for freezing your ice packs and 2 sinks for pot washing (with an INCREDIBLE view of mountains / waters). It’s an ideal site for relaxation, hikes and exploring the local towns.

Disliked: If you’re on the Orchard field, you can’t drive on to unpack and re pack the car. Wheelbarrows are provided instead so lots of back and forth which is a a sweaty job on a hot day.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the detailed review and feedback. For newcomers, we do provide very big plastic wheelbarrows, which you can get a lot of your stuff in and parking for the orchard is only a very short distance away from the pitch locations.

Orchard electric grass tent pitch (five person, large)

Liked: Easy to find little campsite in the most stunning location with well organised 'booking in' process. Love the fact that cars dont go on the grass, the wheelbarrows were amazingly useful and the astroturf on the pitch made such a difference to the cleanliness of the tent both during the stay and when packing up. you would do well to take rock pegs though as the cheaper ones just dont hack it. We stayed in the Orchard paddock which had hedge screening round some of the pitches giving lovely privacy, there are only 6 in total, the Paddock had just amazing views down to the Lake. Privacy or views - your choice. Showers toilets and washing up area so lovely and clean and some really great activities to do whilst on the farm if you have the time! Friendly chickens who wanted to spend time with you, although the dog was not so keen. Fire pits at each pitch with logs available from the farmhouse. Lovely owners who just wanted you to enjoy your stay, and who address any concerns extremely promptly. There is a lovely large fire pit and benches away from the pitches if you are part of a group who want to chat late into the night without disturbing your fellow campers and watch the sunset over the fields.

Disliked: sadly not all campers seem to know how to adjust their voices to 'campsite level' later in the evening, and words needed to be had. The owner was also helpful with another issue with a different group. Not to spoil peoples enjoyment, but as the owner is so good as to provided facilities for those who wanted to chat and be very happy late into the night or to partake of the old woo woo away from those who dont want to, then use them.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Good to hear your stay was mostly peaceful and enjoyable. Unfortunately camping in a tent does always present the problem of over-exuberant neighbours, with noise travelling easily through canvas and nylon tents even at normal talking levels. We do have an overriding rule, that we expect all campers to respect their camping neighbours and others while on site. We will intervene and resolve issues to enforce our policies on-site, but much prefer that there is a general level of respect from the start between campers. We look forward to seeing you again soon and thanks for the review and feedback.

Orchard electric grass tent pitch (medium, two person)

Liked: Uitzicht en ligging

Disliked: Tegen het weekend te vol en te rumoerig om van een prettig verblijf te kunnen spreken

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: It's a shame you did not enjoy your stay. While your review scores reflect your personal opinion I would have to challenge you on your child friendliness scores being a mature couple booking and your cleanliness scores. I know during your stay the facilities were spotless (as I clean them) and the campsite was kept very clean and would refer those looking to book to the reviews from other customers staying at the same time. Thanks for your review and feedback.

Paddock electric grass tent or campervan pitch (large)

Liked: The Paddock pitches are incredible. The views of Bassenthwaite Lake and Skiddaw are simply superb. The Paddock pitches were spacious and were well defined. The system of parking cars away from the Paddock pitches ensured minimal disturbance. The availability of a Lazy Sunday departure took the stress away from packing up. We stayed for 8 nights and the weekdays were blissfully peaceful. I have deducted a star because the weekends were marred by noise.

Disliked: The website states that the campsite offers peace and quiet. The weekdays delivered on this 100% but both weekends were spoiled for us by noise. The campsite has very few do’s and don’ts which left us in a quandary as to what constituted a legitimate complaint by us. We endured the people on the next pitch playing a game of bat and ball which spoiled part of our Sunday evening’s peaceful enjoyment. The following weekend four of the pitches had been booked by a group. They were making lots of noise, laughing and shouting in an awning a few pitches away from us. There was no indication of what the quiet time should be so we suffered this for quite some time. At 11.30 pm I spoke to them and my partner sent a text to the owner. He then had to come out several times to quieten them down. They were completely silenced by the threat of being required to leave the site early. The next evening they went to the group firepit area and we heard nothing more. There was other noise coming from the Orchard pitches especially from one small family who communicated by shouting at each other. We would definitely return to this beautiful site but not without greater clarification of what constitutes peace and quiet on a weekend. Perhaps the information guide could expand on this.

From the manager: Thanks for your comments and for also bringing these matters to our attention during your stay. As stated during our onsite conversation, as soon as these matters were brought to our attention, we resolved them that night with 1 visit to quieten that group down and with a successful resolution the following nights. I would also add, that on being asked to quieten down the group was very compliant and also apologised to all concerned that night and in the morning. While we do not allow group bookings (as per our booking conditions) it is difficult to stop individual bookings that then congregate as a group, but we will always actively challenge campsite behaviours, to ensure our principle policy is observed, that 'Campers should be respectful of other campers on-site". We are a very peaceful site as stated on the website and that is always the case, however when we invite campsite bookings into our home a balance of peace and enjoying the holiday has to be struck, but not at the cost of our principle policy above, as its also our home where we live too. Yes, you are correct, that we do provide additional open spaces which were used after the first night. There are no ballgames/sports games on the orchard or paddock (again respect for other campers), as we do provide lots of grass open spaces away from tents to do this elsewhere. Thanks again for your review and feedback and hope to see you back again soon.

Liked: The pictures don’t do the views justice, even with the rain it was so gorgeous! Very clean toilet facilities and even had a games room with a pool and table tennis table. Owners were very helpful with recommending places for us to go, and showing us around the site. Wish we could’ve stayed for longer!

Disliked: No WiFi but the 4G signal was strong so this wasn’t really an issue in the end :)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Yep 4G signal is great from the site, while we continue to push for better wifi infrastructure provision in our rural location. Good top see you got some great walking in from the campsite.
