  • Quiet family campsite on a farm in the North York Moors National Park
  • Whitby 10 minutes’ drive; Scarborough and Goathland 15 minutes
  • Pub five minutes’ drive; shops, restaurants and bars in Whitby
Fantastic views towards Whitby and the North Sea from the camping field, and a peaceful location well away from the bustle of the coastal resorts are part of the magic at Selly Hill Farm Campsite. This touring site is tucked away on a working farm in North Yorkshire, a handy 10 minutes’ drive from the seaside action at historic Whitby, overlooked by its dramatical Gothic abbey. Pitches are on two acres of partly sloping camping meadows, with simple facilities including an amenities block with a shower and loos, drinking-water taps and parking by the pitches. There’s plenty of room in the camping fields for kids (and any accompanying furry friends) to have a good run around, and more walkies for everyone in the North York Moors National Park direct from the pitches. Fishing, golf and horse riding can be organised and there’s an indoor swimming pool at Whitby Leisure Centre (all of these are within 10 minutes by car) if you need a rainy-day idea for entertaining the kids. Several local takeaways will deliver to the campsite, and there’s a pub within five minutes’ drive as well as all the shop, restaurant and bar options in Whitby (10 minutes).

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: The position of the site is perfect just 2 miles out of Whitby. Beautifully presented and mowed pitches, electric hook up if needed. The view across the hills to the sea is amazing. A very quiet site, ideal for couples and families. The host Peter is very friendly and the prices are very competitive for the area.

Disliked: Did not dislike anything. However it would be unfair of me not to say that the bathroom is basic. It contains a good shower, 2 sinks and 2 toilets. This is ideal if all the family go in together, however not so good if all you need is the toilet and you can’t get in as someone is having a shower. I suggested to Peter very constructively that the toilets and sinks could do with separating out and he said it is something he is looking at. At the end of the day facilities were clean, Andrex toilet roll so I was happy, after all I’m camping not in an hotel.
