  • Peaceful Yorkshire Dales site with views of Pen-y-Ghent
  • A 15-minute drive from Settle; steam train rides pass the site
  • Dog-friendly site within walking distance of three country pubs
Well, isn’t this a really rather fine rural setting – on the banks of the River Ribble and within easy rambling distance of restorative pints at one of Horton-in-Ribblesdale’s three country pubs: how fab... Cragg Hill Farm is in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the views from this peaceful place won’t let you forget that for even a sec. Gaze in one direction and you'll hopefully see Pen-y-Ghent towering over the site; turn the other way and you might just catch a glimpse of the Settle-Carlisle Railway trains wending their way through the scenic surrounds. Settle is a 15-minute drive to the south; as well as being the launch point for train rides, it’s also a good place to source supermarket supplies (or have a swim or a game of golf if you’re shunning such mundanities as shopping). For other days out, it’s recommended you look not much further than roaming around the Yorkshire Dales – although you could also consider hitting the coast at Morecambe, an hour’s drive away, if you’re yearning for a bit of sea air. Back at the farm, life is pretty laidback, with no noisome ents to interfere with the peace, just toilets, hot showers and a washing-up area to keep you and your kit clean.

What customers say

This is a well-regarded, spacious, and peaceful campsite in a stunning location, ideal for the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Visitors praise the clean facilities, hot showers, and friendly, helpful staff. The site is described as basic but well-maintained, offering plenty of room to pitch. Some note the proximity to the railway line, the lack of lights in some toilet blocks, and the single-track access road, but overall feedback is overwhelmingly positive, with many visitors expressing a desire to return.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Had a lovely stay at Cragg Hill Farm. Plenty of space to choose from to pitch up. There were lots of campers there on our stay but it never once felt busy.
Lovely location with the river running straight past - kids loved playing by the river. Only a short scenic walk to Horton in Ribblesdale where we had a lovely pub lunch.
Toilets and shower blocks were all clean. Site well kept with emptied regularly.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Fab site, child friendly , plenty of spaces not over crowded. Plenty of toilets over the site. Depending on where you pitch short walk to showers & washing up area. Grandson loved seeing the trains go by. Short walk across fields to local pubs. Plenty of walks from the site.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great size pitch
Great views
Great area for walking

Disliked It’s says “no awnings” we didn’t quite understand why as we have a roof tent and need the awning if it’s cold in the evening. Luckily it wasn’t.

Toilet lights didn’t work

No identification of pitches and there were some big tents

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Natural environment, friendly owners, clean facilities. Location is great for getting out for the walks: Ribble Way, Peny-Ghent, Ingleborough. Able to walk to the pub and train station which is a gateway to so many other places.

Disliked Some quarry noise, but not excessive.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely place, massive pitches, gets dark so great for star watching. Train goes by now and then gives a toot for the crossing. Only stayed one night, showers where good, kinda outside so maybe chilly in cooler days, and could do with a stool to change on. Small toilet blocks around the fields 👍 Owner was lovely and very welcoming, would stay again

Local attractions

This is a mighty fine part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park to be based in, as it’s within easy reach of several fab sights. Malham Cove and Malham Tarn, half an hour away by car, combine to make an excellent day’s walk; the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail (25 minutes’ drive) is another that’s worth walking. If it’s not walking weather, get underground at White Scar Cave (20 minutes) or Ingleborough Cave (35 minutes). Not active enough? Those for whom Pen-y-Ghent is not so much scenery as a challenge can set out from the site for the climb to the 694-metre peak. Follow up by scaling slightly taller Ingleborough (also accessible on foot from the farm) and taller-still Whernside (15 minutes’ drive) to tick Yorkshire’s Three Peaks Challenge off your bucket list. You may like a little sit down after all that (or instead…) and a fine place for that is in a seat on the Settle to Carlisle Railway, which you can board at the nearest station a mile away in Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Even if you’re not up for the ride, you may like to take in the view of the Ribblehead Viaduct (15 minutes), famed for many as the route taken by the Hogwarts Express.
