Disliked: 1 toilet for the whole site, no toilet paper provided, no soap or paper towels to wash hands. No rubbish disposal , have to take rubbish with you.

From the manager: I remember this woman and her children (aged 6 & 7). She only booked in for one night. She was specifically asked to keep away from the immediate area adjacent to the holiday cottage and its hot tub. She pitched well away from the cottage but later on decided to re-locate herself and her family right next to the holiday cottage and I had to ask her to remove herself. Grudgingly she complied. Toilet Paper was provided but it kept getting pinched. I was constantly checking the toilet for cleanliness and to replenish the toilet roll. She had no idea at all what "back to basics" camping entailed and seemed to expect facilities simply not provided by a " back to basics" campsite. Our site is a very, very large, predominantly flat, grass field. We do not provide swings, roundabouts, swimming pools, bars or bingo. If this person wanted this kind of campsite she should have read, (and understood), our description and perhaps gone elsewhere.

Liked: My husband said it was a fantastic place to stay. Beautiful scenery, quiet. The site is basic... with water available and toilets... but that's the way he likes it. The field was huge, within walking distance of a decent pub that served food. With great villages and small towns yo visit, it was the perfect location for a painting holiday 😀
Disliked: The site is only open for twenty eight days a year!

From the manager: Thank you very much for accurate review. It was a pleasure to meet Phil. He was someone who appreciated the kind of thing we offer here. Hope to see him again sometime. Can't do much about only opening 28 days a year unfortunately. Local Council tremendously unhelpful and if up to them wouldn't even open for 28 days. 28 day rule is Central Government ruling that camp sites can operate 28 days per year without Planning Permission.

Liked: We found the camp very fitting for our first time camping, with plenty of space and an appropriate sized walk away from life. Ken was extremely welcoming even driving by early the next day to wish us a good morning. So pleased!!

Liked: Quiet location, huge pitches,
Disliked: This pop-up site was on a field used for producing silage. The owner was continuing to grow, whilste renting the site out and was planning to take a crop in September. Even with the recent very dry weather, the morning dew in long grass was not desirable for campers. Thank goodness it did not rain Had the owner mown a 10 meter strip around the edge of the field, this would have resolved the issue You cannot have your cake and eat it!

From the manager: Mowing a 10 meter strip around the perimeter of a very large field takes a lot of time and therefore money, and is not exactly a priority in July and August when farmers are out all day from early morning until dark getting the harvest in. As well as the cost of mowing, the loss of production from the September cut also needs to be considered. What is suggested could possibly be achieved but would only result in a pretty big hike in pricing to compensate, so I'm afraid it is yet another case of "you cannot have your cake and eat it".
Very clean, great owner and will definitely be going back.

Liked: Owner was very helpful, we got a small tour to show we’re the facilities where when we got there. It was really quiet on the night time, not very busy and a short walk from the Dudley Arms pub.
Disliked: We stayed near the river at the bottom of the hill for the flattest ground but there was a lot of wasps. I think this was just due to being down near the water as there were none further up when walking about.

Liked: The location and the view, The field is huge and you can pitch up anywhere you like. The toilet facility is clean and warm, No showers but you do have a sink in the toilet hut to wash yourself. We would definitely stay again if we are up near the site.
