  • Quiet adults-only pitches on a working arable farm in East Yorkshire
  • York and Castle Howard 25 minutes’ drive; the east coast 45 minutes
  • Direct access to the Minster Way; Stamford Bridge five minutes’ drive
The city or the countryside… what’s it to be? If you’re unwilling to give up either, make your way to Street Farm Caravan Park, set on an East Riding arable farm at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds. There are plenty of rural footpaths within the vicinity – in fact the Minster Way crosses the farmland – and as a bonus, the stunning city of York is just 25 minutes’ drive away for urban activities and historic sightseeing. These peaceful adults-only pitches are on a spacious park that also makes a great base for visiting the North York Moors National Park and east coast beaches, both of which are within 45 minutes’ drive of the farm. There’s easy access from the road for units of any size, and the camping field is generously proportioned, with plenty of space between neighbours for extra privacy. The site is well-equipped too, with top-notch shower and toilet facilities, an Elsan tipping point and coin-metered electric hook-ups with water and grey waste points on each of the fully-serviced pitches. The pretty local village of Stamford Bridge (five minutes’ drive) sits on the River Derwent and is home to shops, pubs, restaurants and takeaways.

Liked: Excellent adults only site. Very quiet, small scale but excellent facilities. Shower block was spotless. Lovely underfloor heating and liked having the individual bathrooms.
Pitches are fully serviced. Electric coin meter worked well, the owner Jimmy came to our rescue as we hadn’t brought enough.
Easy access to the site through Stamford Bridge.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Electricity deal! It’s cheap as chips, infact it’s cheaper than chips! We were there one night and charged our campervan leisure battery up from flat, used our phone chargers, lights, kettles and air fryer and it cost me 88p!!! Yes - 88p. The meter is shown in my images and is right by your pitch so don’t go overboard in adding £1 coins, take it steady. Don’t be put off by the meter charges. Clean site, clean showers and toilets, very new and safe. Site is very basic, no frills but good. No reception on site, all communication via WhatsApp, all in all it was good.

Disliked: Nowt

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Lovely area and site.Only around a dozen pitches. The toilets and shower block were very clean and new.

Disliked: The postcode takes you to the front of the farm. Go another 100 yards to the first right turn and you will see the entrance. It is a £1 or £2 coin electric metre so was an extra £7 for one night.

Liked: Fantastic, very peaceful site. This is now our favourite site and will definitely return.
The coin meter is easy to use and a great idea, just make sure you take £1/£2 coins with you. Pitches are all level and well spaced out, we didn’t use their facilities but checked them out, really nice.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Lovely peaceful site. As always we received a warm welcome from Jimmy & his sister. The family are very acommodating and Jimmy's Dad kindly helped us out with the loan of an electric hookup cable as ours suddenly died on us. Beautiful, clean, modern shower block and laundry. Nice area to explore the local villages and also near to York .

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Quiet site, fully serviced pitches clean and well maintained, walking the dog round the pond in a morning.

Disliked: Not really a dislike because it's probably built into the pitch price, the coins into a slot for the electric was a bit of a pain, firstly it was hard to get the machine to accept the coins and secondly for someone who never really uses cash a chip and pin or phone reader would be much better. (I actually had difficulty getting hold of pound coins, shops are reluctant to give you more than a fivers worth and banks and post offices are are virtually non existent. )

Local attractions

One way to see East Yorkshire on foot is by following the 50-mile Minster Way between Beverley, York and the Wolds, and handily for Street Farm guests, the trail crosses the farm. Anyone exploring under pedal power can access the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Route near Pocklington (half an hour by bike). Two bucket-list attractions are within 25 minutes’ drive of the site: namely York with its spectacular Gothic minster, Roman/medieval walls and entertaining history museums, and gorgeous Castle Howard, designed by Sir John Vanbrugh and surrounded by parkland filled with sculptures and follies. Landscape architect Capability Brown had a hand in the gardens at Georgian-era Sledmere House (20 minutes), where kids bored with culture can pat ponies and feed lambs (in spring) at the Rare Breed Conservation Farm Park. If a little more activity is required, have a go at watersports at Allerthorpe Lakeland Park (20 minutes), where there’s also an aqua park for kids to fling themselves around on. And of course the east coast is only 45 minutes away by car; take your pick of peaceful walks along the sandy beach at Skipsea, or head for the two stretches of sand backed by amusement arcades and cafés in Bridlington.
