  • Dog-friendly Norfolk site with relaxing fishing lakes and a woodland
  • Half an hour’s drive from Thetford Forest’s Go Ape and High Lodge
  • Catfish, carp, tench, silverfish and more over five well-stocked lakes
Anglers and adventurers, get ready, because Fendicks Fishery is a stunning Norfolk site with five well-stocked fishing lakes and a mature woodland, just half an hour’s drive from Thetford Forest. Out there, there’s plenty of adventuring to be done, with High Lodge and its Go Ape centre as a good starting point. There's a well-balanced atmosphere at this site, as the team have worked hard over the years to manage and landscape the grounds so that there’s a good combination of nature and fishing. Anglers have access to five lakes with a variety of fish up for grabs, including catfish (weighing in at over 95 lbs), carp, tench, silverfish and more. With 32 acres of mature woodland surrounding the lake, peaceful and scenic are two words that accurately Fendicks Fishery. Plus, there’s a splendid set-up in terms of facilities, with a toilet and shower block that’s kept toasty by underfloor heating, a washing-up area, washing machines, information room, Elsan points and the reception area. All the grassy pitches have access to electric hook-up (how handy). When you’re not unwinding around the acres of space around this well-kept site or spending an afternoon fishing, you could take off onto the miles of paths around Thetford Forest or head further out onto the Norfolk coast, which will take you around an hour’s drive or just over.

Scrumpy 2 bedroom lodge (hot tub)

Liked Second time staying here, this time with my in-laws in Scrumpy Lodge for 2 nights. Gorgeous clean cabins, lovely hot tub enjoyed by my husband and son, and immaculate and well-kept site. We fished 3 different lakes over the 3 days and my son was over the moon with what he caught, 2x roach and a tench on day 1 and 8 carp and a roach on day 3. Grandad also caught plenty!
Amazing staff at the café who kindly brought our lunch out to lake 2 on our last day - and lunch was delicious!!!
Very helpful staff who quickly sorted an issue with the water too.
We will be back! "This was the best holiday ever!" - Charlie age 10! (I guess we don't need to book expensive holidays anymore!)

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely scenic pitch, hardly any other caravans so really private and peaceful. The staff were all lovely and the bar and food were great. The shower block was closed so had a long walk to the main block which was dated but clean.

Disliked Not many cubicles and only one shower as shower block at our end was closed until Easter but as there were not many guests it wasn’t a problem.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked We loved the feel of this site from the outset, with lovely spaces for you to put your van/motorhome/caravan. Some lakeside, some a little further away.

The site was relaxed (none of the Club Site park this way, don't deviate! or you'll be banned) so it was up to us how we sited our camper van to suit us.

Though we had a bit of a set back at first, when we set up, (possibly user error! or maybe just a combination of factors) being unable to hook up to the electric on our first night. We were assisted that evening by Sue who tried (in the dark) to work out the problem. We thought it might have been sorted but in the morning we went to the site office to see if any one was able to help us figure out what to do. The post was working fine & the fault seemed to be at the van side of things.

Two lovely guys, Paddy & his mate were soon able to isolate the issue & were so helpful, kindly getting us sorted out.

We had a very peaceful stay, felt safe and knew that the staff throughout were very approachable from the Cleaning Ladies through to the Head Honcho's.

There are other activities held at this location including a Car Boot Sale on the Saturday morning which seemed well attended in spite of the overcast skies. This was well marshalled and little disturbance that we were aware of at all.

Using a friends recommendation to stay as we enjoy Geocaching, this proved to be an ideal place to undertake a variety of caching series.

We didn't get to use the restaurant and bar, but others who were staying here were equally as friendly, which probably reflected the nature of the site.

We used a small amount of electric each day, and were happy with the overall experience. Happy to recommend the site for a few relaxing days away in a lovely county, full of forestry and wildlife that we were to experience & enjoy.

The lakes were peaceful, though there were fisherman who were there, we had little awareness of that as they did their thing and we did ours.

Locally, a little town called Brandon looked lively as we passed through it, but due to the reason for our visit, we didn't actually get to take a proper look around there, but we do hope to return some time, to do it all over again.

One morning I walked to the Shower Block to be greeted by the most amazing bird murmuration - it probably happens every day, but what a beautiful sight it was - and for a few minutes I was mesmerised by it. The swirl of the birds in flight, as one, was fantastic. Couldn't have timed it better if I'd tried!!

Disliked We couldn't think of anything, the site had many facilities, the staff were friendly and so we can't offer a "Dislike".

It might depend on when you stay, as to whether there are any shortcomings, but we didn't experience any.

Local attractions

Head to High Lodge (half an hour’s drive) to kickstart your tour of Thetford Forest. There are all sorts of ways to become one with the forest, from hiring out a Segway, taking an archery lesson or finding your zen with forest yoga. Go Ape Thetford (half an hour) will require a little bravery and some acrobatic skills for its treetop courses and zipwires, but on the ground, there are three cycling trails and four footpaths to follow from High Lodge. If you’re looking to find some places where the kids are likely to be entertained, Banham Zoo (35 minutes) is one such place, as are Melsop Farm Park (35 minutes) and Church Farm Stow Bardolph (15 minutes), two farm parks with a variety of animals and farm-style activities. A day at the coast is also possible from this site… just pick your seafront of choice. Perhaps Hunstanton (55 minutes) and Cromer (an hour and 20 minutes) to the north, or Great Yarmouth (an hour and 10 minutes) to the east? Towards the coast is Bressingham Steam & Gardens (40 minutes), a nice choice to see working steam locomotives in the flesh.
