  • Grass pitches on a farm overlooking Arnfield Reservoir, Derbyshire
  • On the Trans Pennine Trail and 10 minutes’ drive from the Pennine Way
  • Walking and cycling accessible from the site, pubs and shops nearby
Crossgate Farm Campsite is a pop-up affair on a working farm with views over Arnfield Reservoir and Longdendale valley in Tintwistle, Derbyshire. This is a smashing place for walkers and bikers, as guests have direct access to the Trans Pennine Trail, the Pennine Bridleway and Pennine Cycleway Route 68 from the site – and pick up from public transport can be arranged so you don’t need to worry about bringing the car. There’s cycle hire in Hadfield (five minutes’ drive) too, and if you’re just not that into the long-distance, serious stuff, you can still get plenty of bracing Derbyshire air fishing at the reservoir (five minutes’ walk), practising your swing on 18-hole golf courses (20 minutes) and exploring Pennine trails on horseback (15 minutes). Birdwatchers might get lucky and see curlews and red grouse flitting around the water at RSPB Dove Stone (30 minutes), or waders and swallows (surprise) in Swallows Wood (five minutes), on the site of a former reservoir. Barbecues are permitted on the camping field, and the village of Hollingworth (five minutes) has several handy shops as well as a couple of pubs and takeaways for those days when you don’t feel like cooking. You can bring dogs on your Derbyshire farm stay too, but please keep them on a lead around the cattle.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Liked how close it was to a hike we were going too on the Sat. And the views to the right of where we camped were good. Meg the farm dog is a little cutie and stayed by our tent for some love! She was adorable 😊

Disliked: Two portaloos for the whole site, mixed and not enough toilet roll. No lights in them either so had to take a torch at night. Toilets were at the top of the hill where they could have been put closer to the tent area or have more availabile. No showers as described in description of the advert, no hot water washing facilities or even a sink to wash dishes in. Peacoks were pecking at us on arrival and when we went to the toilet. No level pitches as its on a hill & the bits where flat were bumpy.

Liked: Surroundings, views, staff, the barn cafe is awesome, lovely feeling of community if you want that but also perfect to just get away from it all. The access to amazing countryside which is literally at the end of the drive.

Liked: The view Bar and cafe on site Peackocks Large site.

Disliked: 2 portaloos, both full the weekend we stayed as wagon not turned up to empty, but owners had to be pushed to do anything about it. No longer have showers available. No where to wash your hands and face even, so bring wet wipes. Wash up area was 2 plastic bowls on a camping table with a cold water hose pipe. Limited flat areas as mainly sloping site.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Really really loved our stay here. The site was beautiful and peaceful, portaloos were clean, the owners were lovely and friendly. Meg the dog was ever present and gorgeous, a real character on the site. There was good food and drink in the barn cafe and the town was close enough to walk into but the site still felt peaceful and relaxing. It was lovely, definitely going back asap.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.
