  • Well-equipped Derbyshire touring site with easy access from the A517
  • A 10-minute drive to Ashbourne and the edge of the Peak District
  • Dog-friendly site a mile from Hulland Ward's village pub and farm shop
Parking up for the Peak District? Take your tourer off to Ashbourne Touring and Camping Park, a well-equipped park in a handy spot just off the A517 a mile from the village of Hulland Ward. Easy access from the main road means it’s nice and straightforward to get set up at this Derbyshire site – and that location also means you’ll be handily close to the village’s pub and farm shop (a useful source of supplies for your barbecue back at base). Bus services from the stop just outside can take you into nearby Ashbourne – or you can drive over there in about 10 minutes. In fact, everything here has been designed to make life nice and easy for guests, with well-kept ample toilet and shower facilities, a chemical disposal area, a washing-up area and a launderette provided. Dogs are welcome to join you on site as long as they're well behaved. The wifi service provided is also likely to come in handy, given that you'll probably want to plan lots of days out around the area. The edge of the Peak District National Park is about 10 minutes' drive away, as is the start of the traffic-free Tissington Trail, so you'll be in a good position for getting out to explore the lovely landscapes. And there are plenty of other attractions around too, including Alton Towers and the Chatsworth estate.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Well laid out site with families pitched nearer the play area and older parties nearer the entrance. Well equipped, with all you need. Bus stop to Ashbourne, Derby and Belper close by. Nice pub in Hulland Ward a 30 minute walk away.

Disliked: Toilets and showers could have been cleaner and a little warmer, as could the running water

You can catch the bus into Ashbourne from just along the road and there’s a great walk across the fields to the pub in the village.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: This was our first time at Ashbourne Touring and Camping Park. Upon arrival we checked in and were greeted by the very friendly and helpful warden, she made us feel very welcome right away. We were shown to our pitch and then given a brief explanation of all the site facilities.

The site itself is very large and feels spacious with a good mixture of hard standing and grass pitches. We were in the very bottom field (on grass) which was perfect for our needs. Given that the grass pitches are quite a walk away from the main toilet block, it was amazing to find that two little sheds have been placed on the edge of the play area converted into toilets. This saved the long walk to the main block and they were immaculately clean each time we used.

Given that our stay was over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend the wardens did a fabulous job of putting on a free Easter egg hunt for the children. The wardens really are very kind and thoughtful.

The stay was fantastic and there was really nothing major to complain about. A few areas need a little spruce up like the children’s play area where the addition of a little obstacle course or a slide may make it complete and a few more post lights to make the walk from the grass field to the main block not as dark (we used a head-torch when going to wash the dishes or empty the loo).

We didn’t realise upon booking that fire pits/open fires were not allowed although BBQ’s are welcomed. We only realised when we were onsite (However we would have still booked to stay). As most campers do; we love a small fire in the evenings to huddle around and recite the events of the day. I know some sites do not allow them for various factors but it’s always nice to be able to toast marshmallows with the children and keep warm as the nights grow dark.

Overall it was a first for us at this lovely site and we shall definitely be back in the near future with friends and family. Thank you again to the Wardens for a very pleasant stay and see you soon!.

Liked: Lovely site. Very well kept and pleasant staff.
The playing field for the kids is nice and the box with footballs in etc is a nice touch for kids who haven’t got a ball with them to borrow.
Shower blocks and toilets are clean and tidy.
Good position for heading out to various places for a day out.
We went to Alton Towers and we got there in about 25 mins.
Also went into the nearest town of Ashbourne which has all you need for supplies and is a nice little town.
Did the walk to Thors Cave which was about 20 mins drive from site and we also drove about 20 mins to do the Dovedale Stepping stones.
It was lovely and quiet whilst we were there and the onsite WIFI was ok but I think it will struggle when the site is full.

Disliked: The shower and toilet block could do with a little spruce up and the flushing of the toilet wasn’t great.
It was kept clean and was shut an hour each day for cleaning but probably would need two cleans a day when the site is full as not the sites fault but some people are messy and inconsiderate of the fact it’s a shared block.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely stay, toilets/showers nice and clean. Lovely and quiet location with pub in walking distance, although no paths and abit tricky with kids to walk safely especially when it dropped dark. Only stayed one night tho so didn't really have long enough to explore and find any better routes. Seemed to be plenty of walks on your doorstep.

Disliked: Nothing
