Green, you say? Why yes indeed – the microlodges at Glamping Green Istria are in a particularly verdant and peaceful location in the middle of a vineyard, with gorgeous views all around. Bed down at this rural site five minutes’ drive from Marezige and you’ll be looking out over Istrian countryside landscapes, with view towards the Adriatic Sea as well. Want to see it more closely? It’s about a 20-minute drive to the coast at Koper. This is a part of the world that’s really maintained its traditional character, so there are lots of authentic local experiences close by – perhaps heading out onto walking or bike trails through the woods and meadows or stopping at nearby farms to sample wines, olive oils or dried fruits. Not sure where to go? The folk on site are the experts, and happy to advise guests on the best hidden gems to seek out. That authenticity extends to the site as well – you’ll be staying at a cute little microlodge named after the local ladies known as Savrinke and decked out with vintage furniture. You’re welcome to take a wander around the grounds to pick some fresh seasonal fruits and herbs to go with your meals (which you can cook at the barbecue area if you like). Rather someone else did the cooking? Meals and snacks are available at the site’s restaurant. You’ll get another taste of the area early in the morning too, as you'll have a breakfast of local produce delivered to your lodge to get your day off to a delicious start.

Llocs d'interès

There’s much pleasure to be had in simply pootling around locally, either on foot or hiring bikes from the site to pedal along nearby lanes, seeking out scenic spots like viewpoints and waterfalls and finding small wineries to visit along the way. If you’ve got a particular foodie streak, local outfits can sort you with food tours and truffle-hunting outings in season. With the coast so close by, you should certainly get down there as well – perhaps to Žusterna Beach or for a wander around the seaside city of Koper, strolling through the medieval streets, looking out for the Praetorian Palace, and climbing up the bell tower by the Gothic Cathedral of the Assumption for some fabulous views. Both are 20 minutes’ drive away. Elsewhere along the coast, the towns of Izola (25 minutes' drive) and Piran (40 minutes) are worth a stop, and the traditional saltpans of Sečovlje Salina Nature Park (35 minutes) make for an interesting visit too.
