‘The Downs… too much for one pair of eyes, enough to float a whole population in happiness, if only they would look.’ Thus sighed author (and former local resident) Virginia Woolf in her diary back in 1937. Little has changed around here in the intervening years – if you’d like to look for yourself, settle in at Stud Farm, just outside Telscombe in the South Downs National Park. And what views they are from here – a patchwork of woods and farmland tumbling down to the south coast. There aren’t any marked pitches so just pick your spot and commence the fine activity of staring out to sea. Campfires directly on the ground aren’t permitted but you can hire a firepit or barbecue for warmth and eats. Crank your evening’s gawping up a notch or two with an alfresco feast direct from the farm, which can supply tasty treats for your grill, including home-reared pork and lamb. Marshmallows (not home-reared but still essential firepit fodder) are available for dessert. While you’re there, pick up one of their breakfast hampers so you can get your morning off to a champion start with bangers and free-range eggs. Facilities are kept basic here to maintain the site’s peaceful vibe – you’ll have access to toilets, a couple of showers and drinking water. If you’d like to immerse yourself in water it’s a half-hour stroll down to the nearest beach, where you can launch yourself into the sea for a refreshing dip.

Em va agradar: We loved Stud Farm. The views are amazing !! Loads of room around our motorhome. Very friendly member of staff who delivered eggs , sausages and lamb burgers to us , also helped with clear directions to the sea. We had everything on our van that we needed so didn’t use the facilities but it does clearly state that they are basic in the email they sent. Pitch was level. We’ll definitely be back. Well done to all the staff.

Em va agradar: Peaceful and quiet

No em va agradar: £12 charge for a child - absolutely joke. Facilities are basic - even hot shower didn't work properly. Spent 10 minutes waiting for some hot water got an equivalent of a cup of warm water before it went to cold. Their pitchup page says no chemical disposal - but guess what, there is one.

however we are addressing this lack of pressure and are investing money to improve the situation.
I did check the pitch up site and the chemical toilet disposal was in bold to say it is available.

Em va agradar: Well kept organised camp. Immaculate clean toilets and washing up areas. Beautiful area with sheep and horses and wildlife. Lovely walks along the downs and to the seafront in walking distance.

Options to order food and fire out.

No em va agradar: When it’s windy it’s very windy due to its elevated and exposed location, be warned.
Only found out it has low water pressure after booking and upon arrival, it’s not advertised, so be warned it can be a dribble and very cold water with Intermittent hot dribble water.
Take your rubbish home is frustrating if you are there for a while.
The people that work there literally drive around in what feels like very 5 minutes making it noisy and the feeling of being watched, but they were friendly.
Expensive for what you get.

Del gerent: thank you for your feed back, the web site is very transparent, and clearly states that we are on top of the downs suffering low pressure on our water system (so it is advertised}, however we are addressing this situation and looking into avenues to resolve the low pressure. majority of our customers would rather take their rubbish home than pay even more for pitches for us to get rid of trade waist..
our staff never drive unnecessarily, they have fire pits to deliver, logs and repeat orders, toilet cleaning etc, and they do try to make your stay as good as possible.
glad you enjoyed your walks and hope to see you again.

Em va agradar: Friendly staff, amazing large field with stunning views. Didn't use the showers as only stayed 1 night but looked nice enough & was advised about the water pressure prior to arrival and again when we arrived. Toilets well stocked with paper/soap and clean. Decent size pitches, looking forward to returning for a longer stay.

Em va agradar: owners provided lots of useful information about access. Hayley greeted me on entry and explained everything and then helped me get my gas working! The fresh food was delicious. The site is high up on the Tye but has level areas and has wonderful sunset views and immediate access to good walks. The town can be reached by a short walk to access shops and pubs. Facilities were clean and accessible.

Llocs d'interès

To see more of those views, get your boots on and head out onto the South Downs Way, which passes very close by. Hardy souls can tackle the route’s full 100-mile length, while casual ramblers can choose a shorter section. A popular attraction along the route is the chalk figure of the Long Man of Wilmington, a tall lad indeed at 72 metres. It’s a four-hour walk to see him, or you could drive there in around half an hour. Heading south, a 15-minute walk takes you down to the coast path, where you can continue your stroll to the stretch of shingle at Saltdean. The pier, beach and historic buildings of Brighton are around a half-hour drive away. If you’re feeling particularly active you can walk there in around two hours and then hire a kayak or paddleboard to take to the sea. If you’d like to see the place that inspired Virginia Woolf to wax lyrical about the area, visit her country retreat, Monk’s House, an hour’s walk from the site. There are family-friendly attractions galore around here, too – it'll take you around half an hour to drive to the steam-powered Bluebell Railway, or to Drusillas Park.

Allotjament llogat: en arribar al càmping, haureu de pagar una fiança de 100,00 £ (114,74 €) per danys/neteja/polsera que us reembossaran quan marxeu del càmping si, després d'inspeccionar-la, es determina que la unitat no ha sofert danys ni pèrdues durant la vostra estada.
El dipòsit per danys/neteja/polsera que es requereix a l'arribada només pot pagar-se en efectiu.
La unitat ha de quedar neta i ordenada. En cas contrari, haureu de pagar un suplement de neteja de 30,00 £ (35,43 €) quan marxeu.
