If you’re setting off for Stirlingshire with your eye on finding lots of alfresco activities, you should certainly consider Cobleland Caravan and Camping Site as a base. A couple of miles south of Aberfoyle, this peaceful park is in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, just on the edge of the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. That setting means miles and miles of walking and cycling trails stretch out through the surrounding area, with fishing and golf close by too – and watersports, treetop trails, cliff jumping and the like for more intrepid guests. And in fact you don't have to travel far to get started on soaking up the spectacular scenery – you can simply stick around on site, where oak trees tower over the pitches and there’s a backdrop of pretty forest views with the River Forth running along one side of the site. Just beyond the river are paths taking you straight out into Loch Ard Forest for a woodland wander or a dog walk if you’ve brought your pet with you. The pitches at Cobleland are well tended and spacious, with access to all the essential amenities including a launderette, a washing-up area and chemical disposal as well as bathrooms with toilets, showers and disabled facilities. Aberfoyle (five minutes’ drive) has a small supermarket for supplies, plus several places to eat and drink.

喜欢: Great site and facilities. Plenty of clean loos and showers. Friendly staff. Location in the forest, next to the river is great and we saw the best display of bluebells we've ever seen!

喜欢: The range of walks available and the access to the River Forth. BBQ plates on picnic benches were a great addition along with the coffee and pizza van (Saturday night).

不喜欢: It would be nice to be emailed a map of the site so that you know where everything is. There is one on the wall at reception but you’re not there long to take everything in.

喜欢: The site has recently been upgraded and it’s lovely. The guy who runs it was really friendly and helpful.

不喜欢: They have a small coffee van on site that sells hot rolls. On the morning we were leaving I went to purchase two hot rolls and tea but I was left standing, whilst they were preparing coffee and food, without any acknowledgement to my being there. I waited 5 minutes and then left due to their rudeness! I think having this on site is an excellent idea but the owners really need to remember their manners.

Bring it along for action-packed days climbing Ben Lomond (40 minutes’ drive), tackling the high ropes courses at Go Ape Aberfoyle (10 minutes), quad biking, river tubing and archery at Action Adventure Activities (10 minutes) or paddleboarding, cliff jumping and a floating obstacle course at Go Country Adventure (15 minutes). Something a little more relaxing? How about fishing at Lake of Menteith (10 minutes), a round at Aberfoyle Golf Club (five minutes), a stroll along the Loch Ard sculpture trail (10 minutes) or an afternoon meandering along the seven-mile Three Lochs Forest Drive (five minutes)? You could also schedule a tour and whisky tasting at Glengoyne Distillery (15 minutes). A little further afield, you may like to mix in trips to the castle and National Wallace Monument in Stirling (half an hour), the amazing feat of engineering that is the Falkirk Wheel (50 minutes) or a day of museums and eating out in Glasgow (50 minutes).
