If boating on The Broads has long been on your bucket list, take a look here: the dog-friendly Black Barn Farm is a peaceful place to pitch up two miles from the edge of the national park. Here, the adults-only pitches are in a 22-acre field in an established orchard and surrounded by woodlands, making for a rather chilled-out stay. This area is known as the big sky country, so splendid sunsets and lights in the trees create a pretty nice night-time vibe. You’ll be able to kick off the evening with a firepit or barbecue too, as both are permitted on site. A 15-minute drive from Norwich, this site is on the edge of Salhouse, a rural Broads village. So, bridleways and footpaths may be the first thing to capture your attention, as they lead the way to walking, wildlife spotting and canoe hire in the Salhouse Broad – or there's a place to launch your own canoe or paddleboard, two miles away from the site. Convenience is key at this site, starting with the toilets and showers inside the barn, all heated with auto light switches for that extra ease. The barn also has a small farm shop and a café that serves up sizeable breakfasts plus sandwiches and snacks. Nearby, a train station and bus stop are within walking distance with regular services to Norwich city centre or the coast. Foodie? The local food shop is a 20-minute walk away along a public footpath (or a five-minute car journey). For more specific bits, there’s a bigger supermarket 10 minutes’ drive away and beer aficionados will find a brewery and pub five minutes’ drive away too.

Likte: Great location! The black barn with food etc a bonus. New facilities. Great pitches.

Likte ikke: The surrounding area (workers on site during our stay) needs some tidying! The facilities need more frequent attention than at present!

Likte: Outlook is lovely, toilets clean and water hot.

Likte ikke: All grass pitches which is fine, however, grass on every pitch was approx 9 inches long. And this time of year In the mornings, grass was soaking wet, so feet were soaked every morning. Needed wellies.

Likte: Peace and quiet, hearing foxes and owls, fresh air, open field views, clean and tidy showers and washing up facilities, plenty of hot water, proximity of some great pubs and the Broads, friendly and helpful campsite owner.

Likte: We didn’t get to stay. Tried all numbers and email to contact but no replies. A sudden family illness prevented us from coming. So disappointed that no one returned our calls or email. We live in taverham and hoped this could be a regular bolt hole, but there is no communication available once booked. Very very disappointing. We know local people who exhibit here too.

Likte: Nice that we didn’t have to be there by a certain time. Great communication regarding some queries before arrival. Size of pitch was great - gave us lots of space. Was worried that pitch would be muddy after al the rain but it was absolutely fine. Very friendly staff. One suggestion would be to have a picnic bench at each pitch. Quiet.

Likte ikke: No personal hygiene bins in toilets and a mirror in the toilets would have been good.

Likte: Pretty much everything to be honest. Easy to find, very welcoming, quiet, level pitches, excellent, very clean, toilets and showers. There’s a farm shop on site which is convenient and not far to travel to local shops. Fantastic location for the Broads, 10min or so from Wroxham or Horning for boat hire and convenient for great bird watching reserves if that’s you thing. Couldn’t fault anything about the whole experience, will be returning sometime for sure. Highly recommended.

Likte ikke: No security.Only 2 showers and 3 toilets. No mobile Internet signal.No WiFi not even in cafe( this would encourage more people into the cafe. Overpriced compared to club site at Sandringham that has WiFi,security barriers, ample showers and toilets for the same price.No reception/Welcome.

Likte: Lovely location, very quiet and peaceful. Pitches were large and flat, had electric and water, ground was easy to get the awning pegs in. Despite lots of wet weather recently, the grass was well kept, not over grown or churned up at all. Met the owner on arrival who was friendly and pleasant, he also came around checking everything was okay with all the pitches on the morning we left. Toilet and shower facilities were spotless throughout the stay. Once the young hedging plants are more established in a few years, each plot will nicely divided and a bit more private. Bus stop close by and train station is a short walk away with trains to Norwich and Wroxham so plenty of options for days out. Farm shop and Cafe on site, we didn't try the cafe but the smell of breakfasts coming over smelt delicious. Would definitely recommend and book again.

Nosy about Norwich (15 minutes’ drive)? Those of you who aren’t familiar with this cultural city will find there’s much to stick your nose into, from bargain hunting around the old market to a full-on shopping trip or a pitstop tour of the independent eateries and historic sites… the highlight reel includes the hilltop Norwich Castle and the 11th-century cathedral. Those of you who are keen to weave a bit of the seaside into your way will want to head on over to the sandy beach and dunes at Winterton beach (35 minutes) or onto Great Yarmouth (25 minutes). This seaside resort town is all about the traditional, including a funfair, sandy beaches and the Sea Life Great Yarmouth aquarium. Once you’ve picked out those colourful fishies in the tanks, bigger animals wander around the local wildlife parks and zoos. Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens (25 minutes) has red pandas, tigers and leopards among them, while Pettitts Animal Adventure Park (25 minutes) couples up snakes, wallabies and alpacas with rides and playgrounds.
