Camping Aquarius is in the Old Town of Heraclea, on the Lido di Policoro, and on the Ionian coast near Matera, known for its extensive cave-dwelling buildings. Onsite facilities include a play area with football tables and ping pong tables, a picnic area, and a restaurant serving quick bites and pizzas. The private beach, only a short walk away from the cabins, has parasols and sun loungers for hire, as well as a sports area suitable for beach volleyball, football, basketball and beach tennis. The campsite is bordered by a forest of maritime pine trees, ideal for cycling and walking with your dog. Pets are welcome during low season.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

Camping Aquarius is a good base from which to explore the Basilicata region including its extensive archaeological past. The National Archaeological Museum of Siritide is a short drive away and covers Greek life on the peninsula throughout the centuries; you can also visit the Temple of Hera and the National Museum of Metaponto. The 'cave city' of Matera a short drive away is famous for its stone houses carved out from caves and cliffs. Wander down the small labyrinthine streets of Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso and stop by the numerous cave churches, excavated by Basilian monks. Nearby, you can also visit the small villages of Craco (a ghost town), Montalbano Jonico with its stunning views and Valsinni with its handsome castle. Pantano di Policoro Natural Reserve and Pollino National Park are also popular for long walks and for cycling.
