Glamping in Suffolk

An outdoor break without having to pitch a tent? Somewhere that welcomes the kids and the family dog? Or perhaps an adults-only spot with luxurious extras? Maybe you fancy a perch by the sea or somewhere tucked away in Waveney Valley? Whatever you prefer, it’s time to think about a Suffolk glamping holiday.

Finding it tricky to narrow down your options? This is where we come in. Pitchup has a range of choices to have a look at, so read on to see what you could get up to on a Suffolk glamping holiday.

Where you should stay in Suffolk

  • Feeling like disappearing off for some luxurious couples’ time? Use our filters to find adults-only Suffolk glamping sites – perhaps somewhere near bijou little Southwold so you can take scenic strolls along the famous pier and cuddle up with your beloved in cosy pubs?

  • If you’re after a peaceful rural stay on your Suffolk glamping break, look at farm sites around Bury St Edmunds, where you can stroll quiet back lanes through gorgeous half-timbered villages like Lavenham, or base yourself near Saxmundham for bracing walks along the shingle beach at Orford Ness.

  • You’ll need a few ideas to keep the kids entertained on your Suffolk break, so as well as looking for family-friendly glamping sites you may also like to think about a base near outdoor attractions like Go Ape Thetford. Lowestoft is a handy choice if you’re spending the day on high-speed rollercoasters at Pleasurewood Hills Family Theme Park.

  • Why leave the dogs behind when there are Suffolk beaches like Walberswick or Dunwich, where they can run about whatever time of year you're visiting? Do a quick search for dog-friendly glamping spots in Suffolk, and then check out our suggestions for Suffolk dog walks for specific ideas of where to go.

  • Of course, glamping pods give you protection from the uncertain British weather – and many of them are open all year so you can plan Suffolk glamping breaks with confidence whatever the season. How about the spectacular autumn sight of migrating seabirds wheeling over the Orwell Estuary or booking winter concerts at Snape Maltings?

What you can do in Suffolk

  • Treat the kids to days out feeding anteaters at Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park, or cuddling curly-coated sheep at Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm near Needham Market. See lions up close at Africa Alive!, and catch birds of prey flying at the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary.

  • There are plenty of ways to throw a bit of culture into your Suffolk stay. If you’re visiting in June, grab tickets for chamber music recitals at Aldeburgh Festival; meanwhile, King’s Lynn is a hotspot for jazz and folk concerts throughout the year.

  • Go back to Anglo-Saxon times at Sutton Hoo, close to Woodbridge, where spectacular displays unearthed from burial mounds include a gold death mask, filigree jewellery and ceramics.

  • Track down the location of a famous painting. Walks along Stour riverbanks lead to Flatford, and the watermill featured in John Constable’s ‘The Haywain’. The picture was painted in 1821, and little has changed at the scene since then.
