  • Dog-friendly park five miles from Scarborough and 2.5 from Filey
  • Award-winning amenities block, family bathroom and launderette
  • Indoor heated pool, lounge bar, family bar, play area and supermarket
Feel free as a bird at award-winning Crows Nest Caravan Park between Scarborough and Filey – this well-maintained place is roomy, green and has sea views overlooking gorgeous Gristhorpe Bay and Scarborough Castle. Crows Nest is five miles from Scarborough and two and a half miles from Filey, but if you’re taking a break from the seaside/ exploring the North Yorkshire coast there’s loads to do on site too: a lounge bar with entertainment in peak season to suit all ages and tastes, a family bar with pool tables, a games room, a play area for little fledglings and a heated indoor pool with poolside assistants during high season. The award-winning amenities block a short walk from the tent field has free hot showers, wash basins, hairdryers and socket/shaver points, and there are also family bathrooms and a disabled-access shower room. Elsewhere on site there’s a washing-up area, launderette, chemical disposal point and well-stocked supermarket. And, as you can’t come to the coast and not have fish and chips, there’s also a chippy takeaway open in high season (but they do have more fish and chips in Scarborough too). Bringing the family friend? Crows Nest Caravan Park is dog-friendly and dogs are allowed in the conservatory area of the lounge bar; there's also a dog park on site.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: The indoor pool was fantastic ! Our kids (5,9,11) couldn’t get enough of it and we visited it every morning ! The location is spot on - the five of us even walked to trail to Cayton Bay . The facilities are great and well maintained. And that view !

Disliked: The campsite is on a cliff and so it’s very windy haha! But the views make it worth it .

Lower area fully-serviced gravel touring pitch (super)

Liked: Good pitch and well kept with good facilities. Toilet block very clean but found one of the 3 showers in the block was not working properly.

Disliked: Nothing we disliked on site except for the dreadful weather we had while on holiday with our Gran daughter.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch (overflow)

Liked: nice clean site, clean shower block. Nice pub with entertainment if you have children.

Disliked: people pitched too close, other sites i've been on have to have a couple of metres between tents, people were so close we could hear the guy in the tent behind snoring and the people at the side drinking and laughing till early hours. we couldn't walk around our tent as they had their guide ropes in between ours.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Fantastic views, facilities and ground are kept fantastically. Very clean & tidy and helpful friendly staff. Didn’t go in the pub but it did look good and spacious.

Disliked: Would prefer to have designated pitch opposed to a free for all. I feel a lot of people were taking advantage of the space.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch (overflow)

Liked: Well organised and a good selection of entertainment

Disliked: Being in the 'overflow' field it was a little haphazard making it difficult to drive away on days because there was no plan for pitching. Also being in the overflow field meant the closest toilet block was the smaller one and is NOT the same standard of the main one, this was a little disappointing. Also we were disappointed that you could not have fire pits! as this really creates a true camping vibe on an evening, so we did not bring ours, only to find a lot of people had them and none queried this.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch (overflow)

Liked: Good size, well stocked shop and bar lounges with free WiFi. Swimming pool with slides. Bus stop right outside the campsite for buses to Filey, Scarborough and Bridlington which are pretty regular. Nice 45 minute cliff side walk to Cayton Bay which we did or can walk the other way to Scarborough if you fancy a longer walk.

Disliked: We was put in the 'over spill' field which was not level. There was only 3 toilets and 3 showers available nearest to the 'over spill' pitching field where we was staying so with it being a busy campsite this wasnt convinent and my 3 year old ended up wetting herself because there wasn't a toilet available. No play area in the area and it's a fair walk to the playground which is at the top end of the campsite by the cliffs so could do with one down by the main entrance. The games room is tiny so can get cramped when busy. Drinks at the bars are too expensive. Not a lot of entertainment on for families it's mainly sports on TV and loud band on in the evening. Swimming baths was overcrowded as it's not a big pool, 'lifeguards' don't even do their jobs by not paying attention to anyone in the pool and one las just sat there biting his nails while my 7 year old daughter nearly drowned. Lockers are tiny so people couldn't fit all their belongings in so left them around on the floor.

Liked: This was our 4th visit. Very well run site. Perfect location on the coast, close to Filey and Scarborough. Swimming pool helps on a rainy day for kids and on site pub for adults.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind: buses running between Scarborough and Bridlington pick up from the end of the Crows Nest Caravan Park drive and discount day tickets are available to keep more money for seaside rock. The kids will probably clamour first for Scarborough: there are the North Bay and South Bay beaches to bounce around as well as the traditional seaside fairground and donkey rides. But Scarborough’s also a hotspot for culture vultures, with the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum alongside regular festivals and events throughout the year. Fab Filey is even closer: this Edwardian town has a five-mile stretch of sand and is backed by the peninsula and cliffs of Filey Brigg – this is the place to birdwatch and wildlife spot, with rockpools along the beach and many species of birds and beasts to see all year round. The 110-mile Cleveland Way starts here for hiking your way around Yorkshire’s history and heritage: Scarborough Castle, Whitby Abbey and Dracula tales, Mount Grace Priory and Rievaulx Abbey are all along the route. Away from the seaside and vampires, puff between Whitby and Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, veer between villages in the North York Moors National Park or get citified around York and Hull, all within easy driving distance of Crows Nest.
