  • Peaceful park next to the River Forth, two miles from Aberfoyle
  • In Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, a half-hour drive from Stirling
  • Well-kept pitches with direct access to Loch Ard Forest; dogs welcome
If you’re setting off for Stirlingshire with your eye on finding lots of alfresco activities, you should certainly consider Cobleland Caravan and Camping Site as a base. A couple of miles south of Aberfoyle, this peaceful park is in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, just on the edge of the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. That setting means miles and miles of walking and cycling trails stretch out through the surrounding area, with fishing and golf close by too – and watersports, treetop trails, cliff jumping and the like for more intrepid guests. And in fact you don't have to travel far to get started on soaking up the spectacular scenery – you can simply stick around on site, where oak trees tower over the pitches and there’s a backdrop of pretty forest views with the River Forth running along one side of the site. Just beyond the river are paths taking you straight out into Loch Ard Forest for a woodland wander or a dog walk if you’ve brought your pet with you. The pitches at Cobleland are well tended and spacious, with access to all the essential amenities including a launderette, a washing-up area and chemical disposal as well as bathrooms with toilets, showers and disabled facilities. Aberfoyle (five minutes’ drive) has a small supermarket for supplies, plus several places to eat and drink.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Gorgeous riverside location, friendly hosts and excellent facilities (lovely hot showers!) We had a great weekend here, tent pitch right by the river, and great walks nearby plus Aberfoyle nearby with its coffee shops, wool centre and fabulous butcher shop! We'll be back!

Electric grass and gravel pitch

Liked: Ambience was great. Facilities were also good, along with cafe and a handy shop. The crew were really helpful.

Disliked: Proper allocation of pitch should be available. Despite booking a gravel pitch, we had to stay on grass pitch as someone had already occupied the assigned pitch for us.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Arrived late evening with my 2yr old. On approach campsite looked beautiful in it's surroundings. Reception were warm and friendly, were able to point out from the window where we were to pitch our tent but never really got to explain all the facilities because someone came in behind us to also check in. We got a beautiful pitch by the water, which I wasn't too sure about with a 2yr old but as the tent across had a child similar age they played together on the bigger grass area. There is a small playground area more for the older kids but that didn't the little ones curiosity. Campsite had a lovely family atmosphere and good vibes about it. Even when the youngsters came and pitched up on the grass area where the kids were playing they didn't bother the little ones. The toilet block was a wee hike or run sometimes from our end of the campsite. It was very clean but the showers were really busy. We gave up waiting. Dishing washing area and laundry is great for the walkers/cyclists passing through. I didn't mind falling asleep listening to the chat and laughter of others enjoying themselves. It added to the family ambience and they were all clearly enjoying their time on site. Waking to the sound of the river and the birds was lovely. What I loved though was having the option to go grab a coffee and roll from the wee van on site. It was amazing!

Disliked: Only a couple of small gripes I guess. Positioning a tent with such a young child so close to the river maybe not the best but I do think if asked to move I probably could have. I also stupidly forgot the potty so it was a long run from the top end of the campsite to the toilets when they needed a pee as all the facilities are at one end. Perhaps adding a few smaller activities to the park for younger children.
