  • Pod resort by the Savinja river, 5 mins' drive from Ljubno ob Savinji
  • Beds made up, towels, heating, coffee machine and outdoor furniture
  • Hot tub, playground, guest kitchen and private parking on site
Ah, Slovenia. A spectacularly scenic land of mountains and lakes, gorges and rivers, lushly green landscapes and outdoor activities to keep you busily occupied for many a week… do try to get many a week off work to investigate this lovely land for as long as you can. The country knows how to do hospitality too, as shown at Glamping Savinja in the Savinjska Region, steps from the Savinja river and set up for swish stays in smart wooden pods. Each comes with a bed already made up; fluffy towels; heating; a shower and toilet; a fridge, coffee machine and kettle, and outdoor furniture including a picnic table... and a communal hot tub is on site too for steamy submerges. The friendly team can arrange grocery delivery and packed lunches if required. This is a stunningly scenic site – see pics – in a region popular for horse riding, fishing, canoeing and cycling. It’s five minutes’ drive (or 20 minutes by bus) to local town Ljubno ob Savinji and about an hour and five minutes to Slovenian capital Ljubljana. The Logar Valley (hailed as one of the most stunning alpine valleys in Europe) is half an hour away. Glamping Savinja also has a playground, free private parking and a shared kitchen.

Local attractions

The 101-kilometre Savinja river flows very close to the site, on its meander through the Upper and Lower Savinja valley and the Savinja Alps. Among its most famed sights are the Rinka Falls (45 minutes’ drive), the source of the river in the Logar Valley and one of the best known waterfalls in Slovenia; it’s also the highest waterfall in the valley with a drop of 105 metres. And speaking of the Logar Valley. It’s safe to say that this is one of the most spectacularly scenic places you’ll ever visit on the planet… a land of high peaks and beech forests in the Kamnik Alps. The highest Logar Valley peak – and the highest in the eastern Kamnik Alps is Planjava (40 minutes) at 2,394 metres; not surprisingly, climbers arrive from all over Slovenia and further afield to tackle its heights. (A three-hour walk is also in the valley if you like your activity a little less strenuous.) And then… Ljubljana? Slovenia’s capital city is a splendid mix of street cafés and restaurants, lovely old buildings, museums of illusion and art, a medieval castle… and plenty of bridges to picnic at with a hot and traditional burek.
