Eves soaking in your private hot tub and days sailing from Milford on Sea or horse-riding in the New Forest? If that gets a ‘yes’ from you, you’ll be set with a stay at Lightfoot’s Farm on the southern border of the New Forest National Park. A 10-minute drive from Milford on Sea and a short drive from the ‘forest proper’, as the locals call it, the location is convenient for all sorts, like sailing, canoeing, paddleboarding, fishing, horse riding, hiking and archery. The sea’s to the south and the forest’s to the north, but smack bang in front of your bell tent is a private woodfired hot tub, a shower and an eco toilet. Each tent has its own single gas hob, pans, cutlery, plates, bowls and a picnic table, making it easy to cook and eat at your pitch. There’s also access to a shared field kitchen, just in case you want something to snack on in-between submerging yourself in the bubbles. Lightfoot's Farm is a three-acre smallholding with a bunch of bell tents set out in the hay meadow. The owners also grow a few fruit and nut trees in the meadow, along with vegetables for the owners and their friends. So, unplug, unwind and listen to the meadow’s soundtrack as the sun sets. They grow micro herbs in a vertical farm too, which is sold off to nearby restaurants, markets and homes, but they also make sure there are a few in the field kitchen’s fridge for guests to help themselves to. If you’d like to have a little look around the farm, just ask. Those after more splendid eats can source good eateries within a short drive of the site too (just see the seafood selection in Milford on Sea).

Local attractions

You might be quite busy surfing, sea kayaking or windsurfing in Milford on Sea (10 minutes’ drive), but when you get a chance, it’s right next to Hurst Castle (10 minutes). Built by Henry VIII, it’s almost as formidable as its original owner. Set slightly out to sea, this is now a scenic spot for picnics and games with kids. Those seeking awesome rock formations and signature arches might want to take a day trip to the Jurassic coast (from an hour and 15 minutes). Closer by, there’s the gorgeous Solent Way Walk from Lymington for those who’d like to take in the local coastline. Of course, there’s even more action at the city of Southampton (40 minutes). Whether you visit the sky museum to see vintage aircraft, the art gallery or the Titanic model in the SeaCity museum, you should have plenty of preparation for the lively scenes in Bournemouth (35 minutes). Bournemouth (35 minutes) has classic beach huts, watersports, museums, amusement arcades and a beachside zipwire – the whole lot.

Liked: Beautiful place in a great location. Loved that the kids could safely run around and play as the adults chilled! Hot tubs were great. Showers were so nice and hot. Will definitely book again, had such a fun weekend! Close to some stunning beaches too.

Liked: Loved the hot tub Loved the drinking water facility at pitch Bed super comfy Spacious inside tent Inside Kitchen facility helpful Loved the little touch of beers, granola and apple juice on arrival to tent

Disliked: Felt like the poor cousin of the site as rest of pitches had working lights outside of tent and on toilet room however we didn’t. Also lack of paddle to stir the hot tub water. No welcome or good byes from owners to ensure we had had a good stay. No sheltered area outside of tent to sit when raining.

Liked: Lovely peaceful location. Stayed here for 2 nights with 2 kid’s aged 3 & 8 who throughly enjoyed the grounds to run around and the hot tub was a hit with them too. Our own nice hot shower with toilet, comfy beds, spacious bell tent kids used hot water bottles & blankets available if needed. Lovely little welcome hamper the beers were a hit with the adults 😂 the juice was lovely too. Great to have use of the field kitchen had everything you would need. Tent had plenty of camping supplies too.

Liked: Great stay very relaxed and very helpful. Great base to explore the new forest. Woodfired hot tub is a brilliant way to relax and see the stars in the evening. It was still warm for our littlest to jump in again the morning

Liked: Lovely site great hot tub and the shared kitchen was very handy. Tesco close by for anything you have forgotten and can even get a deliveroo. Nice welcome hamper with local beers.

Disliked: Only tiny thing was grass could have been cut under the picnic table so could sit round it otherwise all great
