  • Quiet, dog-friendly site five minutes' walk from village pub and café
  • A 15-minute drive from Spurn National Nature Reserve
  • Half an hour from Hull and just over an hour from Bridlington
How about big skies, lighthouses and sandy beaches on Yorkshire’s east coast? A 10-minute drive from the sea, Hollym Holiday Park has the lot. On the edge of village of Hollym, and about five minutes’ walk from the local pub and café, this park is surrounded by the diverse attractions of the East Riding, from remote wilderness reserves to traditional bucket and spade resorts, stately homes to Cold War bunkers and high speed boat rides. Whatever your speed, you’ll appreciate the friendly atmosphere on this small, well-maintained site, whose facilities include an indoor washing-up area with a shared fridge and freezer and separate male and female washrooms. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the site if kept on a lead, and greeted like long lost pals in the local village pub, while nearby Withernsea beach makes a brilliant place for walkies, human and canine. It’s also good for wanders of the lighthouse and its museum, beachcombing and quiet contemplation among the dunes finished off with fish and chips. If you feel no promenade is complete without a local landmark, head a little further up to Hillston (20 minutes), where Admiral Storr’s Tower does indeed tower over the low-lying landscape, having been built in the 18th century to look out for invaders from the east.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Tidy, neat and new looking.

Disliked: Not really disliked but for consideration. No ventilation in the wash block as far as i saw. The hard standings (slightly too narrow I’d say) were at right angles to the approach making it impossible to manoeuvre a larger motorhome into position without going on grass. A camper van would have no problem.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Spotlessly clean site. Short distance to town and lovely local pub The Plough

Disliked: Whilst I knew it was a £1 for shower. What I didnt like was in the toilets no bin for sanitary wear. No loo brush, no hot water to wash hands n nothing to dry them on either.Poor quality loo roll too which ran out twice on our weekend. Check in, n check out times.

Liked: Site is located in a lovely quiet village. Not too far from Withernsea (you are able to walk if you wanted) Owners were nice and were always cleaning the toilets and emptying the bins.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Cleanliness of fields were very good, toilets were clean every time we went in. Small children’s play area was great

Disliked: The two fields were segrated with a small fence but tents and tourers and motor homes were all mixed together and it felt cramped when the fields got full of people and people who were camping stayed up later and allowed kids to run around shouting till late when our younger children were trying to sleep. The entrance to get into the field on the left is quite tight when you have a longer caravan. There wasn’t much to do around here to be honest. Went to Withernsea, Hornsea and to spurns head but what from that not a great deal to do (not the parks fault) Kids play area could use a big of a revamp but our kids were ok playing in there. Also there were only small black bins for general waste

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: A very neat, quiet well maintained site. Easy access and very friendly, helpful owners. The shower and toilet facilities were spotless. The pot washing facility was clean, warm and dry with access to a fridge-freezer and microwave for campers use. It is possible to walk into Withernsea from the site but is about 2 miles away.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Friendly owners, close to beaches, good playground for children, decent pub nearby, and good washing up/kitchen area.

Disliked: Male toilets/showers are not suitable for very young children. No changing unit or area for washing children. Only an issue as I was a dad on my own with two young children for a couple of days before my wife arrived and could use the female toilet/shower that was better set up and equipped.

Local attractions

They’ve been watchful on the east coast ever since the Vikings arrived, and a recent, rather more chilling reminder of that can be explored at RAF Holmpton, five minutes’ drive away. Built out of tungsten-lined concrete and sunk deep into the earth, this nuclear bunker was originally purposed as an early warning station, but these days, happily, it’s a tourist attraction. The same goes for Fort Paull, 25 minutes away: once a Napoleonic fortress, it’s now home to regular military re-enactments, wartime guns and the only surviving example of a Blackburn Beverly aircraft. For walks and wildlife, on a peninsula sometimes called Yorkshire’s Land’s End, sally forth to Spurn Point and its Nature Reserve (15 minutes), a narrow strip where beaches and mudflats, dunes and lagoons mingle and make a welcome habitat for hordes of migrating birds. Just over an hour away, Bridlington offers total contrast, with family beaches and souped-up boat rides creating whoops of delight on the waves. You can plump for more sedate maritime experiences, like pleasure cruises and seabird safaris, kayak your way round the cliffs to see the puffins, or for inland adventures take the clifftop train to Sewerby Hall for Georgian and Edwardian interiors, pretty parklands and a zoo with a very talkative parrot. For encounters with underwater residents, Hull's aquarium, The Deep, always delivers, as do tours of the city's seafaring past in the Maritime Museum (half an hour).
