For a quiet adults-only North Yorkshire stay far removed from the hurly burly of everyday life, Millfields Caravan and Camping is a tiny site tucked away in Brompton on Swale, a historic village mentioned in the Domesday Book. Peaceful it certainly is, yet there’s masses to do and see hereabouts. The lively market town of Richmond is 10 minutes’ drive away, with its photogenic Georgian architecture, museums, a castle and lots of entertainment options from cosy inns to chic restaurants. It’s also gateway to adventures in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and any keen racing fans among you have the choice of nine major racecourses: York is an hour’s drive, Wetherby 40 minutes, and Catterick a doddle to get to, being a mere five minutes away. And back on site, the manicured pitches look out over lush countryside (great for walking any dogs you've brought along), with simple facilities including showers and washing-up areas. If you choose to conjure up alfresco feasts on the barbecue, pick up essentials in the handy local shop, or you can always head to the village pub for a pint and a pie (both 10 minutes’ walk).

喜欢: Good size pitch, with water and electric hook up. Nice little walk off the site for the dog.

不喜欢: Waste water could be better positioned due to a fence being so close, couldn’t empty it.

喜欢: Good quiet site in very nice rural location. Facilities were fine, would visit again. Plenty of space, camping as it should be, met the manager who was friendly and welcoming.

喜欢: Beautiful site with stream, trees and fields. Toilets and showers clean. Good size pitches. I thought the 6amp may be a problem, but everything worked as long as you didn't have everything on together. Would go again.

不喜欢: Limited toilets and showers. Quite expensive.

喜欢: Lovely quiet site, nice and clean

不喜欢: Our only disappointment (not the site owners fault) was that a lot of the footpaths locally were closed !!!

喜欢: Peaceful setting, close to towns villages. Park and pitches were good size and clean and tidy.

不喜欢: Toilet facilities were basic on electric pitch area. Cleaning schedules of toilets could be more regular. No Dishwashing area within electric pitch side.

Stroll directly from your pitch to the spectacular hilltop ruins of 12th-century Easby Abbey (40 minutes’ walk), or have a ramble along the River Swale to Richmond Castle and the pebble beach at Richmond Falls (both roughly an hour). And of course, there are hikes and cycle rides for all levels of ability in the Yorkshire Dales National Park (15 minutes’ drive). Head to Foxglove Covert Local Nature Reserve (20 minutes) for the chance to spy birds of prey and kingfishers in the moorland, meadow and wetland habitats, or if stately houses are on your agenda, combine exploring formal gardens and a lakeside park at Jacobean-era Kiplin Hall (10 minutes) with a tour of the mansion’s richly decorated rooms. The likelihood is you’ll adore fussing over the camels, llamas and ostriches at Mainsgill Farm Shop (15 minutes), where you can also tuck into a tasty cream tea. Should the weather turn against you, book tickets for blockbuster films at The Station or tour Richmond’s restored Georgian Theatre Royal (both 10 minutes), still with its original stage and seating.
