When you’re chasing down a family camping adventure with all sorts for the kids to do, Osprey Meadow Campsite in the peaceful North Yorkshire village of Exelby should fit the bill rather well. Equidistant between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North York Moors National Park (it’s half an hour’s drive to both), it’s also easy to get to the museums of York (50 minutes’ drive), and lots of family attractions like Lightwater Valley Family Adventure Park are within 20 minutes’ drive. Handy facilities for the few pitches set in a grass meadow include shower blocks, secure lockers with power for charging mobile devices and charging points for electric cars. This is a site that caters for kids very well, with swings and climbing frames in a play area, as well as a three-acre fenced field where they can safely have a run around, play games (archery and quoits are available) and kick a ball about. Mini-explorers can follow the interactive fairy trail, and games and books are on hand in the lending library for those days when the weather’s not on top form. You’re welcome to bring any four-legged friends too, as Osprey Meadow also has a dedicated dog-walking area and two lovable resident canines to help your pets feel at home.

喜欢: All the amenities on site, excellent for children there is so much to do, all facilities are clean. Love the dogs on site.

喜欢: Clean showers and bathrooms. Really safe for the kids to play, nice park and large enclosed field with ‘secret’ swing! Loved seeing the chickens, ducks and dogs.

不喜欢: Not very clear where to go on arrival. No shop within walking distance

喜欢: The play area and games room kept our children entertained. They made lots of friends and my youngest child had so much fun and made so many friends she cried and didn't want to leave the campsite, bless her. My son loved the ducks and chickens and loved the space to run around and play football too.

喜欢: Gorgeous site that is well kept. Toilets and communal area were cleaned regularly. Lots of games inside and out for the kids as well as a nice park and a tree swing. Duck pond is lovely and bonus of being able to buy fresh eggs in the morning for breakfast. Family friendly campsite and owners were welcoming. 2nd visit for us and will definitely be booking again in the near future.

喜欢: Lovely surroundings. Nice playarea for children. Friendly welcome staff

不喜欢: Small pitches. Felt too cramped when full. Field taken over by one large group. We went out for the day and 2 cars parked next to our tent so we couldn’t park in our space which was a pain with sleeping children. We also weren’t keen on the unisex toilets and unfortunately some people left them in a real state.

喜欢: The site has a lovely feel, owners are friendly and come round for a chat. Their dogs do the rounds too and are friendly and harmless but hoping for some bbq morsels. The site has some lovely unique features with a games room, duck and chicken eggs from the resident birds and an enclosed duck pond. There is a huge field for sports and goal posts were an added bonus for my footie mad son.

不喜欢: There was little to dislike, pitches are perhaps closer together than other sites but it wasn’t a problem and just made for a friendly feel. There is only 1 sink for washing up which often meant queuing for a short while.

For a day of fun scrambling around labyrinthine tunnels and dodging water obstacles, book tickets in advance for The Forbidden Corner (half an hour). Meanwhile teens and older kids are likely to love the adrenaline rides at Lightwater Valley Family Adventure Park (20 minutes). To get out and about in clear North Yorkshire air, head up to How Stean Gorge (40 minutes) for rock climbing and canyoning adventures. Admire dramatic Aysgarth Falls (40 minutes) on the River Ure, or take a selfie atop the bizarre rock formations at Brimham Rocks (35 minutes). For a taster of North Yorkshire history, have a potter around the ruins of Middleham Castle (half an hour), the childhood home of King Richard III, or stroll through landscaped ground to see the damage inflicted by Henry VIII at Fountains Abbey (25 minutes). York Minster (50 minutes) is one of the architectural wonders of the region, and you can combine a visit with taking the kids to the Jorvik Viking Centre to see how the Vikings lived in the Middle Ages.
