What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the Holme Pierrepont Country Park, near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing and the inflatable assault course Wipe Out. But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, a mini four-wheel drive course for kids, a kids' activity club and archery combat. A large play park, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception; early booking is advisable). Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away. Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling selected groceries and camping supplies.

喜欢: Great facilities and lovely campsite. Friendly and helpful staff in Reception/shop. Nice little play area for kids and a small walk to the country park.

不喜欢: Was very noisy at night for a family with young kids. Loud music playing and singing/swearing in neighbouring tents until about 11 at night. Not a massive problem, just people having a good time but just something to consider if you have young kids with you.

喜欢: Nice clean campsite, great facilities and a short taxi ride to Nottingham town centre. Staff were helpful when we had issues with our van and overstayed on our pitch whilst waiting for a recovery.

喜欢: We love this site. Everybody is always helpful and other visitors are friendly. The location is great to visit the watersports centre too.

不喜欢: Sometimes the staff cannot keep on top of the cleaning of showers when the grass is muddy so they can be dirty at times

喜欢: Considering how close the location was to city centre, it was fairly remote wasn’t hardly any noise. The shower/ toilet facilities were in really good order as well.

不喜欢: Felt a bit expensive, at reception I explained we have a tent box, and asked if it’s ok to leave the vehicle on the grass I did ask if there was any hard standing we could park on considering weather Conditions, one member of staff seemed really lovely the other not too much. In summary they said it was fine to just drive and stay on the grass. We drove to our designated pitch next to the water point which was very useful, but at night it seems to have the brightest light so if you are pitched up next to a water point be sure to have light proof shelter. That night it rained so much that if we had not packed up and moved the car when we decided to we would of been stuck. Can’t blame them for weather but I can’t see how spending 30 quid to be parked on water logged grass and having to leave early to avoid being stuck is feasible. Shouldn’t be that expensive!

If you've any energy left over or you're hardily thinking that the watery and land-based activities of the Holme Pierrepont Country Park just aren't enough, get along to the cycle paths of Colwick Country Park on the outskirts of Nottingham, which have miles of waterside biking alongside the River Trent. Wildlife watchers can wander around Skylarks Nature Reserve, owned by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, highly recommended by the Holme Pierrepont Country Park team and 15 minutes' drive from the site. The cricket ground of Trent Bridge, home of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, is 10 minutes' drive away.
