  • Quiet site by the harbour in the village of Mehamn
  • Wide range of activities including deep sea fishing and jetski safaris
  • Seafood restaurant, sauna and shared kitchen on site
Northern adventures don’t come much more northern than those on offer at Adventure Camp Mehamn… this Finnmark site is centrally located in the village of Mehamn, the most northerly fishing village in the whole European continent. Mehamn is a fairly small place, so a stay here will put you within easy walking distance of all local facilities, including a restaurant, a food shop and a bakery. If the waterfront location puts you in the mood for fresh seafood, there’s no need to go far as there’s a restaurant on site where you can feast on king crab and other seafood treats. But while the location is pretty handy for all these things, it’s actually the huge range of activities that’s the main draw for guests travelling to this place. It couldn’t be easier to sort outings of all sorts from here, as Adventure Camp Mehamn is attached to an activity centre that organises days of deep sea fishing, king crab fishing, quad bike tours and guided jetski safaris around the fjord, among other things. On top of this there’s a boat rental service on site, along with handy fishing facilities including a fully equipped marina and a deep freezer. Local guides (speaking English, French and Norwegian) can be hired on site, and there’s wilderness kit to rent too. Back at base after all your adventures you can relax in the sauna or the outdoor areas, and clean up at the service house (which is home to six bathrooms and a shared kitchen).

Local attractions

This site is really quite far removed from just about everything – and that’s its beauty, of course. Up here it’s all about exploring the far northern wilderness in all its majesty, and the best way to do that is to sign up for something from the range of activities offered on site. You’ll want cameras at the ready for boat tours to Cape Nordkinn, the northernmost tip of continental Europe, as you will for guided nature safaris on land or taking jetskis out onto the fjord. Quad biking outings might be more your style if you like to steer yourself at some speed, or you can swoosh along on snowmobiles after dark to see if you can catch sign of the Northern Lights. Heading out to sea is a good option too – if you’ve enjoyed your seafood dinners you can have a go at catching your own on deep sea fishing or king crab fishing tours.
