  • Relaxed and dog-friendly Dorset campsite over six acres of grassland
  • Two miles from Weymouth beach; Chesil Beach 10 minutes' drive
  • Pick your own pitch, with barbecue pits and simple facilities
You can pick your own pitch at laidback Dorset site Wobble’s Camping – and there’s plenty of choice, as this site spreads out over six acres of level grassland. That means you can select a spot that’s just right for you, perhaps seeking out a secluded corner or clustering close together for a family gathering. It also means that there should be plenty of space for all guests – numbers are always kept under control to make sure the place doesn’t get overcrowded. This is a relaxed and informal site that’s aimed at couples, families and kids, and dogs are welcome too as long as they’re kept under control. It’s not a party site though, so you’ll need to look elsewhere if you’re travelling in a larger non-family group. Facilities are similarly informal, but all the essentials are covered – you’ll have access to temporary showers and toilets, drinking water stand taps and bins and recycling facilities. Barbecues are permitted to help you make the most of that outdoor time, with several dedicated barbecue pits provided to make that a little easier. And if you think the setup sounds pretty great, wait until you see the location… Wobble’s Camping is on the Chickerell link road about two miles from Weymouth’s town centre and beach. It’s an excellent spot not only for Weymouth but also for lots of other locations along the Jurassic Coast – and there are numerous footpaths nearby too for coast and country walks. Local amenities are similarly handy, with a supermarket, takeaway and bus stop all within easy walking distance.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Had everything we needed, toilets, shower and nice cold drinking water! We stayed just the one night but would definitely stay here again. Convenient location and not even a 5 minute drive to car parks nearer the beach.

Local attractions

There’s no need to make long journeys to find local attractions around here – in fact, you need only wander across the road to get to Bennetts Water Gardens, a gorgeous eight-acre park packed with water lilies and various features including a Japanese bridge and tropical house. The seaside isn’t far off either… you can get to the centre of Weymouth with a 45-minute walk or a 20-minute bus ride for days on the beach or exploring the Sea Life Centre and SandWorld sculpture park. Chesil Beach (10 minutes’ drive), West Bay (25 minutes) and Durdle Door (half an hour) should all be on your hitlist too – along with Portland Harbour (15 minutes) if you fancy some sailing or watersports. Turning back inland, you may like to take a day in Dorchester (15 minutes), take a stroll around Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens (15 minutes) or head to Bovington (half an hour) to visit Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre and The Tank Museum.
