Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: N/a

Disliked: Awful Customer service - apologising when we were on site to say that they agreed the pitch area should have been cordoned off… to then later claiming we had pitched in the wrong place - asked for a phone call and could never get through. Pitch location - electric pitch that was next to a very large and smelly bog. Only one toilet block in use at the top of the field which was a long walk for little legs. The closer block was closed

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: The view was lovely and the location pretty good.

Disliked: Arrived to find no one in the office but someone did come. I asked a question but he ignored me. We then got the pitch number which was very uneven and made it difficult to climb into our caravan for both myself and especially our young grandchildren. I took my granddaughter to what I thought was the closest toilet block but on the way someone said they were locked and not working!! No explanation as to why. We had to climb the hill to use the portacabin toilets and showers. There weren't enough for everyone on the camp and were not kept very clean. I know it's the campers who dirty them but I didn't see anyone clean them all weekend. We saw someone trimming the trees but no one else. No-one was checking at the park and some of the kids were awful. We could also smell weed being smoked on the camp near the woods. For the money we paid, I expected a better camp. We won't stay again.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Very friendly staff. Playpark on site. Toilets and showers on site. Close to local convenience stores. Freedom to have BBQs and campfires. Lovely

Disliked: Slightly uneven pitches, made camping a bit uncomfortable.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We had a lone weekend away camping with 8 adults and children aged between 1 to 11 years. All the kids loved it, the park is great and our pitches were spot on. The kids loved the woods, they played in them daily (for hours) All the kids took bikes and the place is great for playing on their bikes. Would recommend and will be coming back *****

Disliked: The only down side is the shop isn't very well stocked with things you'll need on a daily basic while camping, but there are shops a short drive away.

Local attractions

To the Peak! The Peak District National Park is but a short drive from Riddings Wood Holiday Park, and has a bit of what you fancy for all ages and inclinations. If you're in the area to hike, there are more Peak District trails than you can shake a (walking) stick at, from the shorter treks of seven or so miles around the upper Dove Valley and Pilsbury Castle, to long-distance paths like the Limestone Way (46 miles), the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (55 miles) or the Peak District parts of the Pennine Way, running for 268 miles from the northern Peak District to just inside the Scottish border. Climbers and cavers also delve into all things Peak: thousands of routes for all abilities are all over the park for climbers, including Burcen Edge for beginners and more hair-raising ascents like Debauchery and Mad Dogs and Englishmen for the severely experienced. If you're of a cavernous disposition, make your way to the village of Castleton and its four show caves, Blue John, the Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Cavern with underground boat trip. Matlock Bath has a cable car to take adventurers to limestone caverns The Heights of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern near Buxton has vast caves to explore before an above-surface walk around Buxton Country Park. Other attractions like Chatsworth House and Gardens and the old Crich Tramway are to hand for the historically-minded, alongside old Peak District villages and market towns for tearooms, restaurants, family pubs and lots of shopping: try Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell to start you off. Back at Matlock Bath, let the kids go large at the rides and attractions of theme and play park Gullivers Kingdom for ages two to 13; the 600-acre Matlock Farm Park nearby should keep them busy for a bit too.
