  • Well-maintained site with facilities such as a bar
  • A few miles from the Norfolk coast
  • Sixteen luxury bathrooms on site with individual showers and loos
Have you ever been to the Norfolk coast? Pine-ing to return or to see it for the first time? Come and stay at Pine Cones Caravan and Camping, near King's Lynn inland and Heacham and Hunstanton on the coastline – this is such a royally good region that King Charles and his cohorts have a pad at Sandringham just a mile away. If the king were camping, it's a fairly safe bet he would like the up to date and excellently kept amenities at Pine Cones too: 16 warm luxury bathrooms, all with their own shower, toilets, basin and storage racks; a roomy, indoors washing-up area with several sinks and plenty of drainer space; and a washing machine and dryer in a separate room to sort out the laundry. Once the essentials are sorted, send the kids off to the adventure playground to try out the treehouse, rope ladders and high level walkway, and settle down in the picnic area with coffee and eats… there's a coffee machine on site and the well-stocked shop sells a good selection of items including bread, milk, and fresh and frozen food. A selection of outdoor gym equipment is also available for the energetic holidaymaker. Off site, Pine Cones is about a mile from the nearest pub the Feathers, or trot off to award-winning the Coach and Horses. Both are in nearby Dersingham village, where there's also a supermarket, takeaway and coffee shop dishing up homemade cakes daily.

Sandy Acres electric grass and sand pitch

Liked: Lovely site, easy access from the road perfect location with Hunstanton, kings lynn a short trip. Supermarkets nearby also. The site it’s self is well set up and never a long walk to any of the facilities, the facilities then selves are exceptional all are well equipped and clean the shower/toilet block is easily the best we’ve used with each “cubical” being its own private toilet, sink and shower and all heated so nice and warm in the colder days and evenings. And access to the on site bar, restaurant/cinema and playground are nice additions for family’s with little ones. We also followed some of the walks that have been mapped out for you that are included on the welcome pack on arrival these are also amazing. The grass EHU pitches are nicely sized and marked out and the electric hookup points are very close. Overall it’s a great site and perfect for family wanting to be near the beach.

Disliked: No real dislikes just be aware of the ground type it’s quite sandy so for those booking he with tents make sure you have decent soft ground or sand pegs as the ones that come with tents aren’t great in this type of ground. This is nothing against the site just the type of ground in the are area.

Sandy Acres electric grass and sand pitch

Liked: Lots of showers and toilets, all clean and high quality. The children's play area was quite big and had enough to keep them entertained. There was a separate dog area for them to play and do their business. Electricity and water supply was reliable. There's a nice walk through the fields close the campsite.

Disliked: The pitches were so small and tightly packed together that issues we'd probably have overlooked instead became unforgivable. We had children from other families playing very close to our tent, tripping over our guy ropes, and kicking balls into our tent. We had drunk teenagers and their parents with loud music, swearing, and generally shouting well past the 9.15pm "quiet time". There were enormous puddles of water. A lot of dogs barking. On multiple occasions, I needed to open the entrance gate for visitors, because there were no staff to help. When we complained, or asked for help, the response from reception was inflexible, curt and unhelpful. They did nothing to deal with any of the above problems. We felt pretty unwelcome the entire trip. The on-site shop was barely open, and had little for sale anyway. The on-site restaurant closed early, and was basically someone throwing cheap food in a deep fat fryer and charging you a fortune. Additionally, it's close to a main road so there's a constant background of car noise. This was a really disappointing campsite, with little to recommend it if you're travelling as a small family.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. We are pleased that you enjoyed using our facilities and found them clean and of a high standard, we are thrilled that the children enjoyed using our play area. Our pitches on Sandy Acres are 9m x 10metres, giving plenty of room for a tent/caravan and car, unfortunately if you have a large size tent this will obviously leave you less room to relax on. Our security go round twice on an evening to check that everything is in order, they found no problems to be concerned about, we also never received any other complaints from other visitors. We do not open the gates for visitors, they are all given the barrier code upon check-in, if they are visiting yourselves then it is up to yourselves to guide them through the barriers. If you read previous reviews it states that my staff are very friendly and helpful, we like to assist in what ever way we can. Our shop is open until 3pm daily, but over the may bank holiday (Witsen Week) our shop/reception was open until 4pm daily. We stock the necessary item as there is a co op shop only 5 10 minutes walk from the site. Norfolk Nibbles were open from 4.30 - 8.30pm Friday/Saturday evening, and people only say great things about their food, it is cooked fresh upon ordering. Unfortunately we cannot please everyone, but it appears that most of our visitors ( and we was full for the weekend) enjoyed their stay with us.

This is a lovely clean site with great facilities, very clean .

Pine Views camping pod

Liked: The campsite was by far the best I’ve been to. I’ve just got home and booked another stay there! The staff are friendly and helpful, the food they serve is yummy at a good price. It’s very dog friendly with a dog park and shower for them. The bathrooms are clean and hot. I can’t fault this campsite one bit. The people who have bought static caravans are friendly too, I look forward to my next trip in August!

Sandy Acres electric grass and sand pitch

Liked: The people who run the site seem really nice and hospitable, the site was very clean, showers and toilets were probably the best Ive seen on a campsite, they had radio music in each toilet bar one toilet for those who needed a quieter start to the day. The water was hot and you could put the radiator on for your towels and anything wet. The site had a lovely little bar with table games, there was a little shop for essentials and local produce and a take-away service which apparently was very good, we did use it. The location is close to a few beaches and not far from a larger shop c10 miles. There is a small playground for the kids to play in which is close to the bar, if you want to grab a drink but away from the camping pitches. Dogs are very welcome but we had a few negatives included in next section and they had a warm shower for those rainy beach days which was a massive like from us! :)

Disliked: The site was really close to a very noisy road which was a real negative for us. The pitches were ok, you aren't allowed a fire as there is a piece of land right next to the tent pitches. You aren't allowed ball games on the pitches - we luckily brought swing-ball which was fine. Dogs aren't allowed off the lead but they are very welcome and the area for the dogs to be off the lead was very small and it was more an area for dogs to toilet, so not that nice. The pub closed at 8.30-9pm which is a shame and when it rains, you have to get in there really early to get a seat.

Local attractions

Beaches, historic houses, museums and festivals, tiny villages, market towns and fab family days out are all easily accessible from Pine Cones Caravan and Camping – after a day at Sandringham, but of course, to wave at the king first... Within a couple of miles, the deer safaris, farming activities and walking trails of Snettisham Deer Park and the sights and smells of Norfolk Lavender are both good options for a day out; Snettisham has an RSPB reserve too for those itching to twitch. But as you're probably in west/north Norfolk for the beaches, head to Heacham, Holkham and Hunstanton first, the closest sands to Pine Cones, and then take a trip to Brancaster 11 miles away; the family-friendly and very scenic sands of Sheringham, Cromer and Mundsley are a little further along the coast. (Also, the final scenes of Shakespeare in Love were filmed at Holkham, and all the beaches in these parts are fairly filmworthy, so bring your camera.) Other excellent options for days out include village hopping and shopping among the scenic sights of Dersingham, Holt, Fakenham, Aylsham and Burnham Market to pick up some local produce, or going along to one of Norfolk's festivals or events: there's usually something going on throughout the year. Pine Cones is also on the edge the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – bring walking boots, crabbing nets and plenty of room for picnics.
