Electric hardstanding touring pitch (medium, semi-serviced)

Liked: Cleanliness & Organisation. The campsite requests a particular layout, which actually adds to the athletics of the site, everything all lined up nicely. The restrooms get a thorough, and I mean thorough cleaning daily, by the young lady, who puts 100% effort into it. The are the cleanest i’ve ever seen. The water technology is awesome..shows that a lot of money & effort has been put into the campsite. The vending machine area, is a sight to behold. Fresh dairy milk, milkshake or frappe from one machine, Hot drinks another, All your staples including loafs of bread and in the last vending machine is local ice creams with over 10 flavours. It’s a fantastic idea & way better than it sounds. The staff in reception were kind, friendly & helpful. Nothing was a silly question. I felt very welcome. The site is secured by automated bollards that only allow registered vehicles in, so solo travellers can rest assured that they will feel safe. Could easily be an Adults Only campsite as it was so peaceful. The local pub is worth a visit, if only for the dog friendly garden. The burger I had for lunch was epic, I couldn’t eat for the rest of the day. I only walked around the local farm shop & cafe, but from what I saw the food looked good. Local attractions you must add to your list; Weymouth Beach, Weymouth Harbour, Nothe Fort, Abbotsbury Village, St Catherine’s Chapel (this requires a walk up a steap hill, take water) The Swannery … plus so much more.

Disliked: Nothing - A helpful tip - bring mountain pegs, if you’ve booked hard standing.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch (semi-serviced, small)

Liked: Absolutely spotless facilities. Well laid out site

Disliked: Nothing, apart from the fact that the wifi perhaps unsurprisingly didn't work inside the 'tin box' of a motorhome

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (medium)

Liked: Rural views. Large dog walk field and path along old railway track. Level gravel serviced pitch. Very good shower and toilet facilities. 24 hour vending machines for essential supplies. Pub and farm shop cafe close by. Bus stop at entrance. Summer day service to Weymouth or Lyme Regis for £2 per journey. Cheaper than parking for the day. Walks to Hardy's Monument, Chesil Beach or Abbotsbury. Secure vehicle entry with numberplate recognition. Allows to tall motorhomes.

Disliked: Sometimes traffic noise is noticeable. No TV reception for us however this was made clear in the welcome letter. WiFi was variable.

Local attractions

However long you stay here (at least a couple of weeks, preferably), there's enough to see and do around Dorset to entertain all ages and tastes. Ditch the car if you prefer: the local bus stop is 150 yards from the farm entrance, to pick up the Jurassic Coast route bus (X53) running from Exeter to Poole. The Portesham Dairy Farm team recommends a climb up to the Hardy Monument on Black Down (five minutes' drive) as a nifty way to see Dorset and its splendid coastline (the monument isn't to the writer Thomas Hardy as you might expect in these parts, but to Vice Admiral Thomas Hardy, a commander at the Battle of Trafalgar; do be sure to tell that to the kids). You should be able to see the Devon coast, the Mendip Hills and the Isle of Wight from here on a clear day; just clamber the 120 steps up to the viewpoint. Also much recommended is Abbotsbury, home of the famed swannery as well as subtropical gardens and a kids' farm (also five minutes' drive), and the golden sands, sand sculptures and fair rides of Weymouth, 15 minutes from the farm. Portland (25 minutes) is also a must: visit the lighthouse, forage for fossils and come down the hill from the top of town for stunning views of the coast and Chesil Beach.
