  • Well-established family-friendly site in the centre of Croyde
  • A short walk from Croyde's beach, surf schools, shops and pubs
  • Peaceful site with modern facilities including a ladies' dressing room
Ah, Croyde – the mere mention of this lovely little village is liable to perk up the ears of surf types, who’ve no doubt heard about the splendid waves around this corner of Devon. Those same surf types (along with those who’d like to learn the art of standing up on water, and anyone else that’s keen on the coast) should also find their ears pricking up at the offerings of Camping @ Croyde Bay, a friendly site in village centre. The waters at Croyde beach, around 400 metres away, are famed as being fab for both keen surfers and novices, and that also makes this area a top pick for family hols. This well-established site is a family-friendly place too, in a spot that’s easily walkable to the village’s shops and pubs but quiet enough for a good night’s kip. Facilities include a spacious and sparkling clean his 'n' hers bathroom block with ample toilets, hot showers and a much-loved ladies' dressing room with mirror, power points, hair dryers and hair straighteners. There is an additional hot outdoor shower for sandy wetsuits, a drying area, plenty of fresh drinking water and a washing-up area for dealing with dishes. There's wifi everywhere on site, and guests can also use the communal freezers and mobile phone charging points. As for the local area, it’s not all about Croyde: Putsborough beach (another corker) is also within walking distance, and it’s a couple of miles to Saunton for more sandy times and a gorgeous golf course.

Electric optional grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Great experience from the start. Really nice welcome and clear instructions from reception. Comfortable and safe stay as a solo female traveller, from a really well ran campsite. 10 minute walk down to the the beach so perfect location for the whole family. Quiet site so there was even plenty of wildlife in the mornings and evenings which was really nice to see.

Disliked: Not ideal wifi signal from the bottom field. But we don’t camp to be on our phones! 😊

Electric optional grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Firstly when we booked the booking-in site asked me if I had any preference of pitch. I asked for one in a corner out of the way and that’s exactly what we got. We stayed in my van and we also put a small tent up with loads of room to spare. The showers and toilets were very clean and presentable. They even had hair dryers ect to use. They have a freezer to utilise as well as washing up sinks all nicely spaced out and very tidy. There is everything you need to stay here very comfortably. I highly recommend this camp site! The chap in the checking in office was extremely helpful and polite too 👍.

Disliked: Our pitch did have a very slight slope but it still had plenty of room for the van and tent to be perfectly level.

Local attractions

So… the beach? Thought so. Croyde’s one of those fab places that’s equally good for a paddle, a swim or a surf. Experienced boarding types can usually find some good waves down here, and there are shallower sections where newbies can find their feet (with the help of one of the village’s surf schools, ideally). For a rest from the waves, take a walk out to Baggy Point (about 45 minutes on foot), join a game at the village’s beach volleyball school or drive for 10 minutes to the rural pursuits at Borough Farm Sheepdog and Falconry Displays. Alternatively, make it all about the sea with a coasteering day from Croyde, a ride on the beach at Woolacombe or a sea safari from Ilfracombe (both 15 minutes’ drive). The beaches at Putsborough and Saunton Sands are both about five minutes’ drive away and there are some cracking walks to be had on the South West Coast Path around here too.
