All-weather electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch
Liked: Attractive and welcoming site, compact enough for our children (9&15) to visit facilities independently and be safe. The play park, toilet block and utilities were fine for us. Some features quite basic (coin operated hair dryer and no hand driers or paper towels in the toilets for example) But plenty of hot water and everything was clean. Dogs welcome but on leads at all times so no danger of one bounding onto your pitch! Reception staff were really helpful, leaving us a map for our pitch as we were arriving after the reception and shop closed and directing us to parking locations in York. (We didn’t really explore Sheriff Hutton or area surrounding the campsite. Mainly used as a base for York day trip which is a drive away) We didn’t pay for the WiFi option but all had signal and data on our phones which is important for teens and for googling if you need maps etc! We would return to this lovely site, HOWEVER we would book direct. See ‘disliked’ section for Pitchup’s mistake!
Disliked: The image of the pitch supplied on Pitchup is NOT representative of what you get on this site when booking through Pitchup. It is NOT a hard standing and grass pitch with ‘grass patio’ -or any grass in fact. It is literally a row of very very hard hard-standing, in a shady area on a straight along the tarmac away from the main pitches. We really struggled to get our pegs in for our driveway awning and had nowhere to sit outside our van/awning. Bent multiple hardstanding pegs trying to pitch up and snapped three pegs trying to remove them! As we had arrived after the shop/reception closed we couldn’t move onto a different pitch, which was annoying as they actually had the pitch free that we had been told we’d booked! I took the booking confirmation complete with details and image of what we had been sold to the reception the following morning, and the lady who was taking the remainder of the balance aplologised but said there was nothing she could do. Those pitches are allocated for Pitchup bookings and as such are false advertising by Pitchup! She would have moved us, had we been staying longer, but for the sake of another night and day it wasn’t worth the take-down and re-pitch. The stones under the groundsheet made for a pretty uncomfortable two days and we had no grassy area around the pitch to enjoy the sunshine or for the children to play on. This really needs looking at! The pitch we should have had was beautiful which made it all the more disappointing.

All-weather electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch
Liked: Friendly staff, quiet site, big pitches, play area for children
Disliked: It would benefit from having a cafe or bar on site as there isn't much within walking distance but overall the site is lovely. No wifi on the site and the one we purchased didn't work either.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, we are pleased to hear that you were impressed with our pitches as a lot of work is put into maintaining standards here at York Meadows. The lighting around Lilling Meadow is fully functional and working, new bulbs were installed at the start of the season and they are checked regularly along with all facilities including the showers.
