If the idea of a dry (on the drinking front) and dull January fills you with dread, why not head to the land of the bard, Robert Burns, and celebrate Burns Night in Scotland over the weekend of 25 January? The whiskey will be flowing and the haggis ready for tasting!
Pitchup.com has some excellent suggestions for places to enjoy a stomping good weekend with friends.
Luxury chalet for six people for just £240 for a three-night stay
Linnhe Lochside Holidays has availability on its luxury Nevis chalet for the Burns Night weekend - featuring three bedrooms including a spacious kingsized bedroom, this stylish chalet is perfect for a group holiday. There is a large open-plan kitchen, lounge and dining area for visitors to party or relax in, and a small balcony to enjoy a bit of fresh air. The cabins are fitted with bathrooms and central heating and offer beautiful loch views.
The site is based just outside the town of Fort William, famous for being the gateway to the Scottish Highlands, and is close to the Nevis Range Mountain Centre with its popular snow sports. Fort William has everything visitors will need for a fun-filled holiday including numerous shops and restaurants. The chalets are available for three-night stays for £240.
Wigwams and woodland cabins offer plenty of choice from as little as £49.50 per night
Loch Tay Highland Lodges is a beautiful site offering a wide choice of accommodation set around woodland and the loch, and until 13 February budget-conscious visitors can enjoy 10% off the cost of their getaway. From just £99 for a two-night stay, guests can enjoy a cosy wigwam in the secluded woodland on site, or for something a little more luxurious, the one-bedroom woodland cabins have everything in one place and start from £158.40 for a two-night stay.
The wigwams offer a slightly rustic style of accommodation with guests needing to bring their own bedding and towels, although a TV, heating, electricity and a kettle are provided, while the fully-heated cabins feature an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything guests will need to make a Burns Night celebration to remember. The cabin features an ensuite bathroom plus comfy settees, a flatscreen TV, hifi with iPod dock and a woodburning stove.
The site has plenty of activities to keep guests entertained including fishing and woodland walks. There is also a restaurant, games room and free wifi on site.
