Once you’ve explored your own wilderness on site, set your sights on more spectacular scenery with a trip to Shenandoah National Park (an hour’s drive) and perhaps a drive along the spectacular Skyline Drive. More adventure awaits at Virginia Outdoor Center (20 minutes) as well, with river rafting and tubing outings.
Time to take it easy instead? Take a history-tinged wander around Chancellorsville Battlefield (five minutes) or Wilderness Battlefield (10 minutes) or try a meal or tasting at one of the local wineries or breweries – Bacchus Winery, Eden Try Winery and 6 Bears and a Goat Brewery are all within 20 minutes’ drive.
Over in Fredericksburg (20 minutes) there’s a sense of history in places like Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park, Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop, the James Monroe Museum and Chatham Manor, plus several good places to get a meal or a drink.
