You'll be able to spend a Spanish holiday far away from noise, pollution and crowds here: Camping El Portús is tucked away on a deep blue and stunning bay (peruse pics now, please), among jaw-dropping scenery between sea and mountains. To take yourself exploring, you won't have far to go to reach urban civilisation, as it's a 20-minute drive from here to the ancient city centre of Cartagena, and about 45 minutes to province capital Murcia. This stunning site comes with all manner of additions to keep you soothed, smoothed and stress free, like a beauty salon, sports areas including pétanque and tennis courts, an excellent playground and a spectacular pool: again, peruse pics now, please… You don't need to leave the site or food and drinks, either, as it has a restaurant, supermarket and – huzzah – a beach bar.

喜欢 Great location and the beach was wonderful. Facilities were top notch and clean.

不喜欢 Both pools closed during the week we were there also 500 runners turned up on the Saturday morning early to do a 9k run with no warning from the site staff or management.

喜欢 Sehr schön gelegener Platz . Die sanitär Anlagen sind sehr angenehm. Gleich einem Badezimmer ist eine Dusche ein Lavabo und eine Toilette einzeln Abschliessbar. Der Strand ist paradiesisch
schön, sehr sauberes Wasser und man kann sich mit oder ohne Badeanzug bewegen.

不喜欢 Die Stellplätze sind zum Teil eher klein.
Der Campingplatz liegt etwas abgelegen,
ist durch das aber sehr ruhig und nicht
übervoll belegt.

喜欢 Lovely site. Clean loos and showers. We had a pitch very close to the beach. Set at the foot of some stunning mountains too. Staff at reception very friendly and helpful. Felt secure (guards on barrier). Beach is open to the public, but security guards again monitor entry to the site.

不喜欢 Restaurant had just opened for the winter season and it felt a bit like they weren't quite up to speed yet. Food was okay though.

As it's betwixt mountains and sea, sporty options across a range of levels and terrains are easy to find: sailing, windsurfing and diving are close to hand, as are rock climbing, hiking and golfing at several local courses. Camping El Portús has agreements with several local companies offering activities at discounted prices, so get prepped to save some euros and to get mucho active. You can't come to these parts and not have a day or two in cracking Cartagena, founded by the Carthaginians way back in the BCs. It's been under Roman, Phoenician, Byzantine and Moorish rule since then (not all at once), giving the city rich pickings for those geeky about historical highlights… Have a good long look at the Roman theatre of Carthago Nova, and the 13th-century cathedral remains with Roman mosaic floor in the crypt if you're of this bent. More modernly, Cartagena has several Art Nouveau buildings well worth a look, as well as a naval museum and a shelter museum from the Spanish Civil War. The mining town of La Unión is half an hour's drive from the site and Murcia is within 45 minutes.
