If you fancy a little stroll from the park, take the kilometre-long trail to Loenense waterfall, a man-made cascade in the forest. After you’ve warmed up with that walk, plan something a little longer in the Hoge Veluwe National Park (15 minutes’ drive) – the country’s largest national park is full of woods, moorland and sand dune areas to explore on foot or by bike. While you’re visiting the national park it’s worth seeking out the Kröller-Müller Museum (25 minutes to drive direct), which holds the second-largest collection of Van Gogh paintings in the world. For more cultural offerings, follow the ‘Eight Castles’ bike route nearby, or just head straight to Castle Vorden (35 minutes’ drive) or Palais Het Loo (20 minutes). For kid-friendly days out, try a trip to meet the monkeys at Apenheul (20 minutes), a day at Julianatoren (20 minutes), a theme park designed mainly for under-12s, or a ride with the Veluwsche Steam Train Company from Beekbergen (five minutes).
