The only site in its surrounding valley, Camping La Chiocciola is surrounded by green hills and a short drive from scenic Chianti vineyards, close to the town of Bucine in Tuscany's Arezzo province. It's a peaceful place 250 metres above sea level, and a tiptop base for investigating the rest of Tuscany: Siena is about 40 minutes' drive away and Florence around an hour. There's a pick of three pools for guests' free use, all surrounded by a sun terrace with a good number of sun loungers (also for gratis use). Also free to use are the two tennis courts and ping pong tables; there's a spacious playground to occupy the kids, and a nicely scenic network of paths runs around the surroundings scenery for ambling. There is a market around 50 metres from Camping La Chiocciola where you can pick up local food to attempt your own Tuscan dishes, have an English breakfast (if you're from Blighty and missing your fry-ups), or grab takeaway from the grill room to have around the spacious site grounds. There is also a bar on site serving simple dishes, sandwiches and pizza.

Famed throughout the world for their splendid scenery and green vineyards, the Tuscan hills are a rightly popular place for hiking, cycling or motorbiking. Chianti vineyards and castles including Ama (also a Chianti producer) and Brolio are within 30 kilometres. Siena, 40 minutes' drive away, is another famed Tuscan destination that should be on your must-see list: its old centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the city is famed for its food, art, museums and the fab Palio de Siena horse race, a must-see if you're around in July or August. An hour away is utterly fab Florence, the ancient Italian centre of art and music. This beaut place also has a UNESCO-listed old centre for the quality and range of its buildings; Florence is rightly lauded as one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
