It's a bewitching lake indeed. Camping Magic Lake is right on the shore of spectacular Lake Como, the famed glacial waters making up a Lombardy locale that's – rightly – been haunted by celebs, royalty and arty sorts since the toga times of the Roman empire. (If you inexplicably need more convincing, Como has been lauded as the most beautiful lake in all the world.)
A minute's wander from all this is your spellbinding setting at Camping Magic Lake, 10 minutes' stroll from the Province of Como town of Dongo. It's within simple sauntering distance too of a sailing and yacht centre with boat and motorboat hire, and within hiking distance of the small lakes of Darengo, Cavrigh and Ledù as well as mountain bike routes such as the Via dei Monti. Kayaks and mountain bikes can be hired from the team.
This smart site was set up in 2003, as a peaceful and family-friendly place for sailors, scenery seekers and active adventurers, who want to settle down among top-notch facilities after a long day lakeside. There is – but of course – a sandy beach here too, as well as – but of course – spectacular scenery and easy access to loads more Lombardy stuff to see and do.
Magic Lake is a family-run site, with sparkingly modern amenities, disabled facilities, a campervan service area and a laundry room. For yet more lakeside leisurely pleasure, there's a play area for the kids to whizz around at while the grownups drink in views and cocktails from the bar terrace – as with most things to do with Lake Como, it might be time to cast an eye now over the pics…

Take the handsome three-kilometre route from Dongo to the nearby town of Gravedona, by foot or bike along the lake shore.
There are weeks' worth of other activities close by on land and on water, such as windsurfing, sailing and kitesurfing on this south to north breeze, waterskiing and canoeing in the mornings and evenings when the lake is quieter, and accessing over 180 kilometres of hiking and mountain biking trails nearby at the lakes of Darengo, Cavrigh and Ledu.
For mountain biking high up, make for the Via dei Monti Lariani, where the altitude reaches 1,000 metres; for heady hiking, tackle the 2,000-metre Alta Via del Lario, a mighty challenging trekking trail.
Among the many other local options are visits to the Lake Como villas and to the ancient city of Como, or shopping and sightseeing in Lecco and in Switzerland's Lugano, each around an hour away.
