Beach day? Pool day? Kids’ club day? Sì, such are the tricky decisions to make at Villaggio Camping Costa d’Argento, on the Trabocchi coast between Ortona and Fossacesia. Settle in for a stay at this San Vito Chietino site and you’ll be under 10 minutes’ walk from the resort’s sandy beach (accessed via a footpath with a subway under the main road for the safe passage of scampering small folk). Too far to trot? Make for the site’s outdoor pool area, complete with sun terrace for those who like to lounge and a paddling pool for the bambini to splash merrily around in. In summer, mascot Ciao and a team of human helpers keep the tiddlers happily occupied with all manner of activities, allowing supervising parents a little free time of their own for swims, games of tennis or seeking out a shaded spot under a palm tree for a little siesta. A shared lounge and games room are also on site for relaxed indoor times. Barbecues are permitted on site for those who fancy creating their own feasts, with a well-stocked mini market on hand to supply all the necessaries. If you’d rather bow to local foodie wisdom, there’s also a restaurant serving up traditional Italian specialities including woodfired pizzas, alongside top-notch wines and cool cocktails (best sipped out on the open-air terrace on a warm evening).

喜欢: Der Platz ansich ist schön, auch gut gelegen. Der Poolbereich ist sehr groß und gepflegt.

不喜欢: Die sanitären Einrichtungen sind sehr veraltet und auch nicht sehr gepflegt. Man kann sie nutzen, es geht aber besser.

喜欢: La piscine, sanitaires propres.

不喜欢: Très bruyant, douche eau chaude payante, on nous a installé entre de vieilles caravanes résidentielles... Je ne pense pas que l'emplacement où nous étions était un emplacement de camping... Mais plus un espace restant qu'il y avait entre les caravanes des résidentiels...

喜欢: Eine der Rezeptionisten sprach englisch und war recht nett, (der Rest leider nicht), der Fußweg zu Strand ist recht angenem

不喜欢: Stellplätze waren nicht sauber, der Pool hat schon um 19 Uhr zu gemacht, überall an unserem Stellplatz waren tote Vögel oder Mäuse, die von streunenden Katzen hingebracht wurden oder vom Baum gefallen ist, Strand war zugestellt mit Liegen die man sich mieten musste, der restliche Platz war zum Großteil schon belegt, abends gab's dann noch warum auch immer ein großes Feuerwerk, was von der Lautstärke wohl genau neben unserem Platz gestartet wurde, worauf man nicht aufmerksam gemacht wurde, die Kinder dort haben rassistische Aussagen getätigt, auch wenn die auf italienisch waren, hat man die doch verstanden, zumal die zum Teil auch ausländische Kinder umzingelt haben, die Einfahrt zum Platz war an einer steilen Straße gelegen und nicht an der Stelle, wo Google einen hinhelotst hat

As well as the lovely beach in San Vito Chietino (with both free and fee-paying areas) there are plenty of other fab sandy spots along this stretch of coastline. As you travel along the coast, keep your eyes peeled for the trabocchi (traditional fishing huts on stilts) that give the area its name. A 15-minute drive (or train ride from the station 10 minutes’ walk from the site) is the town of Ortona, where you can wander around the castle, sip free wine (yes, really) from the wine fountain (yes, really), and take boat trips to the Tremiti Islands for gorgeous walks along the cliffs and through the olive groves, as well as some great scuba diving. Also recommended as day trips are Abruzzo Zoo, 15 minutes’ drive away, to get up close to all sorts of beasts as you walk on the wildlife path, and the city of Pescara, half an hour away, for museums, churches and strolls along the seafront or through the historic centre.
