And the welcome’s just as warm at this spacious site five minutes’ drive from Westoverledingen, whether you’re seeking peaceful times hanging out by the lake or a place for active family hols. For the former, settle down with your fishing rod or slip into your swimming cossie for sunbathing and swims from the sandy beach area.
And for the latter? The beach area’s the place to be too – it’s got a sizeable playground and a mud play area where kids can rejoice in getting all messy (and you can rejoice in the ability to dunk them quickly in the lake water for easy clean-ups).
During the summer hols there’s extra entertainment set up for the small ones (crafts, sports, shows and the like) and all ages can gather for merriment in the evenings, when live music and parties spring up a couple of times a week and there’s a popular cookout on Wednesday evenings.
The restaurant takes care of meals at other times of the week, and there’s a little kiosk serving up drinks, ice creams and snacks for those that can’t make it through to dinner.

It’s all pastures, marshes and rivers in the surrounds, so it comes as little surprise to find that this is a fine part of the world for walks and bike rides. Ostfriesland has around 20 waymarked trails to follow on foot or bikes, several of them themed (including a geocaching route and one marked with representations of all the planets of the solar system).
The area’s towns tend to be pretty places too: for a taste of traditional town life, aim for Leer (15 minutes’ drive), where there’s a castle, a handsome red brick town hall and (perhaps a tad incongruously) a tea museum. Canoe trips can be had here if you’d like to check out the surrounds while paddling.
Looking further afield for your urban kicks, you may elect to head east to wander around Oldenburg’s Old Town (50 minutes’ drive) or glide over the border to the canals and cafés of Groningen (an hour).
