Any painters passing through the Luberon National Park would be well advised to pack pretty much their entire palette, for this is a très colourful area. It even inspired Van Gogh and Cézanne, and you may have heard that they knew a thing or two about landscapes...? Should you fancy following in their footsteps, you’ll be needing your purples for the lavender fields, your reds and oranges for the ochre rocks of the Colorado Provençal site, and a whole range of greens for the park’s lush hills. With any luck you’ll also be needing your blues for the skies, as this area boasts a rather fab 300 or so days of sunshine per year. Not an arty type? No problem – there’s plenty of other activity to fill your time at Domaine des Chênes Blancs, five minutes' drive from little Gargas. Head out for walks, bike rides, watersports, visits to ancient villages and foodie samples at the local markets, or hang around on site for swimming, aqua gym sessions, pétanque contests and games of beach volleyball or football (plus extra family-friendly activities laid on during the summer months). And if it was actually a period of splendid inactivity you were after? Spread your towel out for a sunbathing session on the poolside beach area or bag a table at the restaurant for leisurely grazing from the menu of snacks and drinks.

喜欢: La parcela era amplia. Los trabajadores muy simpáticos, atentos y dando muy buenos consejos.

不喜欢: Llegamos a última hora a la piscina y tuvimos la sensación de que el agua estaba sin depurar mucho.

喜欢: Loved the rustic back to nature feel. Only stayed for 1 night and didn't get chance to use the pool but it looked great from the bar area.

Bar was great with a live band who were very good. Had a great atmosphere too.

不喜欢: Shower block could do with a lick of paint but were ok

喜欢: Shady pitches and swimming pool. Great facilities and we had a lovely meal at the bar restaurant in the evening. Friendly helpful staff too. Lovely holiday.

Around its 120,000 hectares of forest, vineyard, mountains and gorges, the Luberon National Park has many hundreds of kilometres of walking trails catering for serious hikers and casual strollers. Other active options include paddling a canoe down the Sorgue river or swinging through the branches of a treetop adventure course – Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, half an hour away, is the place for both of these. A particularly memorable (and picworthy) place for a walk is the Colorado Provençal area: a15-minute drive from the site will take you to a spectacular landscape of reds, yellows and oranges, with stunning rock formations including natural fairy chimneys and manmade structures left by former ochre mines. For a spot of history and culture, make the 20-minute drive to Gordes to visit its 16th-century château and Stone Age village of bories, and take in some scenic views from its hilltop perch. A little closer to home are the prehistoric caves just outside Gargas, said by some to date back a whopping 27,000 years.

The site is not liable for any refund in the event of force majeure.
