This is the kind of place you might draw if someone asked you to come up with a picture of the ideal mountain sojourn – all wooden chalets and gorgeous views of the peaks at every turn.
Cosy up in one of the chalets here and you’re well placed for all sorts of wholesome fresh-air antics come snow or shine. Summer guests can while away many a day hiking, mountain biking, climbing or riding their way through this stunning corner of the Hautes-Alpes, while those who swing by in winter have access a whopping 2,000-hectare Alpine area with downhill and cross country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding and heaps of other snowy activities.
Whichever season you select, you’re highly recommended to follow up the day’s efforts by returning to site to soothe the muscles with a dip in the warm waters of the indoor pool and/or a sesh in the sauna.
Should the pool complex not have cured all your aches and pains, you’ll be chuffed to note that it’s only a short trot into the resort centre for eats and drinks – restaurants, bars and a little supermarket are all within five minutes’ stroll (perhaps a couple more for hobbling skiers).

The area around La Joue du Loup and Superdévoluy is quite the hub for all manner of mountain-side activities.
In summer, local guides will show you the top spots for climbing, fishing, mountain biking and hikes. Folks seeking an adrenaline rush may like to sign up for a whitewater rafting, paragliding or canyoning trip or zoom across the zipline at Lac du Sautet, half an hour from the chalets.
For something altogether more restful, take the 15-minute drive to the little village of Truziaud and Bergerie Chez Pascal, where you can meet the resident sheep and find out just how soft lamb’s wool really is.
Come here in winter and you’ll have access to around 100 kilometres of marked ski pistes between the two resorts of La Joue du Loup and Superdévoluy. Also around are 35 kilometres of cross country trail, 30 kilometres of snowshoe trail, sled dog excursions and the Mushroom’s Park, with moguls, rails and ramps for beginner boarders and experienced riders alike.
