If you’re after an easy family beach holiday, check out this handy Hérault location. Lodges Méditerranée is a mere 300 metres’ walk from a large sandy beach on the Mediterranean coast, and everything here has been designed with supreme simplicity in mind.
To start with, you need do very little to get settled in at these comfortable lodges – each one is equipped with a private bathroom, a kitchenette (with fridge, cooker and microwave as well as plenty of kitchen kit) and a living space with TV, sofa and dining table. Bed linen and towels are provided, and there’s both heating and air conditioning to keep the temperature right in all seasons. Outside is just as lovely, with each lodge having a sheltered deck as well as a private enclosed wooded space.
Having all this provided for you means you’ll quickly be able to get on with the important business of relaxing. As the beach is so close, your first move might be to head straight there, but if you fancy something different you’ll have plenty of choice, including a dip in the indoor pool or one of the two outdoor pools (open from May to September, along with a paddling pool).
A sauna and pétanque court are also on hand for adults, with an indoor play area providing entertainment for kids and teenagers alike. In July and August there’s also an activity programme with sessions for kids (aged 6-11), teens (12 years and over) and adults.
Having a kitchen is handy for prepping your meals, but the site also has a restaurant, café and bar and there are more options 10 minutes’ drive away in Valras-Plage.

The beach by the site is a lovely place to relax, but if you fancy a bit more action you can head to Valras-Plage (10 minutes’ drive) for watersports like jetskiing and waterskiing or boat trips along the coast. Cap d’Agde (half an hour) is a great spot for family days out; south instead and you’ll soon be into the wilder Narbonnaise en Méditerranée Regional Natural Park (15 minutes).
Along with all the coastal activities, there are inland options such as a treetop adventure park (five minutes’ walk), go-karting (five minutes’ drive) and canoeing (10 minutes). And if you’re not with the kids, there are plenty of vineyards to explore, too.
For a bit of urban wandering, Béziers (25 minutes) and Narbonne (35 minutes) are both great choices – each one has some lovely historic architecture along with some super places to eat. Carcassonne and Montpellier can also be on the schedule if you don't mind a drive of an hour to get there.
