There’s so much to discover in Languedoc-Roussillon, and it’s only right to pick a peaceful and relaxing spot to unwind after a day of adventuring. And there’s also definitely plenty for families to do at chilled Camping Ushuaïa Villages Le Village des Sources, even if you never stir from the site.
Set in five hectares of leafy grounds at an altitude of 450 metres in the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park and five minutes’ drive from Hérault’s medieval Ceilhes-et-Rocozels, the site positively oozes family entertainment. There’s a pool complex with a paddling pool for younger guests as well as a revitalising ‘wave corridor’, a multi-user sports field for some gentle family challenges at pétanque, soccer or table tennis, and colourful climbing frames in the play area.
No need to worry about catering either, as Le Village des Sources has got it all covered. In July and August the restaurant is open for pizzas and local specialities every day, while the bar serves up local wines, beers and soft drinks as well as ice-cream treats. Should you be sticking to self-catering, there are a few grocery stores in Ceilhes-et-Rocozels, along with a couple of bistros if you’ve hung up your apron for the holidays.

Keen anglers have it good at Le Village des Sources, with fishing for perch and trout at Lac du Bouloc (five minutes’ walk) and in several places along the River Orb. Anyone into hiking or cycling also wins out, with spectacular trails through forest and Monts d’Orb foothills accessible directly from the site.
If you prefer the bustle of storied towns, you’re in luck too. Medieval Béziers (an hour’s drive) makes a great day trip for its cathedral and grand squares lined with cafés, and you can take a 40-minute walk along the Canal du Midi to the lock flight at Écluses de Fonseranes. Montpellier is also about an hour away, with a medieval old town and stellar architecture like the neoclassical Porte du Peyrou triumphal arch – round up your urban day out at a Place de la Comédie bar.
The mineral spas of lovely hillside Avène-les-Bains (15 minutes) await, where you can take the therapeutic waters at the Station Thermale d’Avène. Another day trip that’s good for the soul is to Lerab Ling Buddhist Temple (also 15 minutes), for a stroll around the shrine-dotted water gardens and a moment of contemplation in the gilded pagoda-style temple itself.
