Like the idea of falling asleep lulled by the lapping of waves? And waking up to another day snoozing on a Corsican beach? That’s just what you can do at Camping Côte des Nacres, five minutes’ walk from the sleepy seaside village of Solenzara on the island’s east coast. Relaxation is the name of the game here, so live your holiday at your own pace. Swim in the sea, laze in the sand, play ping-pong, volleyball or tennis … However you choose to spend your time, you’ll soon catch the laidback vibe on site and feel thoroughly chilled. A raft of amenities are there to make life easy for you; in high season the mini-market by reception covers breakfast breads and pastries as well as essentials for barbecues on the beach. La Paillote, the casual beach-side eatery, also opens up for family favourites like burgers or pizzas to keep everyone well fed and content. In the unlikely event that you require a change of scenery, just meander into Solenzara for a stroll around the marina before grabbing something to eat from one of the village’s seafront bistros.

When the kids are looking for outdoor adventure, you can hire boats, quad bikes and scooters in waterside Solenzara (five minutes’ walk). If more high-octane endeavours are called for, the Solenzara treetop high-ropes course is right next to the site; staff there can organise challenging hikes and adrenaline-pumping canyoning expeditions in the Pulischellu Canyon (half an hour’s drive) and rugged Aiguilles de Bavella (45 minutes). Back down on the coast, you have several beaches to explore; go snorkelling at the foot of the rocky cliffs backing Plage de Canella (10 minutes) or head for the sandy bay at Plage de Tarco (15 minutes) for safe swimming in gentle waves. Pack a picnic before heading to Plage de Chiola (five minutes) as it has few facilities, but you’ll love the mountain views. Keen to sneak a little culture onto your agenda? Walk up to the photogenic ruins of Covasina Castle (20 minutes), a once-mighty fortress with roots in the 10th century, or venture further afield to historic, clifftop Bonifacio (about an hour) to explore its labyrinthine Old Town and impressive ninth-century citadel.
