Set on 15 acres and are shaded by olive, pine and eucalyptus trees, the pitches at Olmeto’s Camping Vigna Maggiore in southern Corsica are simple enough in style. But everything else at this cool, designer-ish campsite is about easy luxury and spectacular views – in fact, there’s pretty much everything you could want when escaping reality for a few days. The simple, avant-garde architecture combines with a hilltop location for awesome views wherever you go. The restaurant, which is open in the evenings and for Sunday brunch – offers up dining with romantic sea or valley views from the terrace. And with the family occupied in swimming pools, at the kids’ playground or playing table tennis, it should be easy to find time to slip away to the adults-only wellness centre, a peaceful retreat with a lap pool, spa treatments and hammam baths overlooking the Gulf of Valinco (yes, more awesome views…). Contemporary shower blocks are spotless with an individual changing booth and a launderette. In high season, the on-site grocery store sells bread, pastries and various necessities, plus produce from the property’s gardens.

喜欢: The onsite restaurant is definitely recommended. The food is great and the prices are good too. The pool area is clean and along with the restaurant/bar it has an amazing view.
The restrooms were quite clean.

不喜欢: The ants: there were so many of them!

The noise: many of the pitches are located next to a main road, it’s like having the cars passing right next to your head.

No hand soap and no toilet paper: this should be a must!

The wasp/insects: there were quite many of those after dawn, including huge wasp nest at the shower area - quite dangerous.

WiFi: only worked at the main reception and restaurant/pool area.

Should you tear yourselves away from the pool, you shouldn't be disappointed with what you'll find to do and see nearby. Down on the coast, Propriano (10 minutes’ drive) is a pint-sized seaside resort with sandy beaches, plus sailing charters from the marina, snorkelling and paddleboarding rental. And after all that sporty effort, you can rest up guilt free in a seafront bar, or kick back in the Thermal Baths of Baracci (10 minutes). Somewhere far above Propriano is hillside Olmeto, with its cosy cafés and local shops for a real taste of Corsican culture. Other hill villages worth a peek include Porto Pollo and Sartène (both 20 minutes). There’s plenty of history around too, with Bronze Age standing stones at the prehistoric site in Filitosa (20 minutes). The island’s pink-hued capital of Ajaccio (an hour) is best-known as the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, and has a cute old town as well as lively nightlife if you fancy staying out late.
