A handy Breton locale, a lush and leafy lakeside setting and lots of on-site leisure facilities are the top features of Domaine du Moulin Neuf, a green and tree-filled spot next to the pretty village of Rochefort-en-Terre.
This is a sizeable site, set across 30 hectares of woodland around a 15-hectare lake for watersports, fishing, swimming and a beach. Away from the lake, this pristine park has a pool and a solarium, a multisports area for volleyball and badminton, and bike hire so you can explore the mountain bike trails crisscrossing the surrounding forest.
The pétanque pitch is the place to go for a gentler time; to slow things down even further, try out the games room and its library, or the TV room for a spot of goggleboxing. During July and August the park organises activities for kids aged between four and 12 years, and themed family entertainment events are hosted in the evenings.
A restaurant caters to those who can’t be faffed to cook, and as befits a lovely country park such as this, a barbecue and picnic area is also on hand for alfresco eats.

The pretty neighbouring village of Rochefort-en-Terre is set at the summit of a rocky hill dominating the Gueuzon valley. The place is filled with traditional timber-framed houses, as well as Gothic and Renaissance mansions and some pretty spectacular examples of 19th-century architecture.
Next to tick off the holiday checklist will most likely be a drive out to the Gulf of Morbihan's golden sands for a swell day out by the sea, or for surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing at the seaside spots of Damgan, Pénestin, Billiers and Conleau.
Also a top option while around here is a boat trip to one of the many islands a little way offshore, such as Belle Île, Groix, Hoëdic and Arz. Also visit the ancient standing stones and prehistory museum at Carnac, and top off a trip there with a stopoff at its beach or – if you’re travelling sans tiddlers – a pamper at its thalassotherapy spa.
