When it comes to family holidays in Brittany, Ze Camping at Camping Domaine de Bel Air has got a lot going for it. It’s close to the visitor magnet of Quimper (25 minutes’ drive) and 45 minutes from Finistère’s breathtaking Pointe du Raz. Even better, the Atlantic coast and its fabled sandy beaches are only 10 minutes away – this site on the outskirts of Landudec really is set between the coast and the forests… between “Armor and Argoat” as they say in Brittany.
Everything is aimed at welcoming families to relax among lots of greenery and with plenty to keep everyone occupied. Younger kids are well cared for with a mini-golf course and an extensive play area with a bouncy castle, trampoline and watersides (in July and August), and all ages will gravitate towards the pool complex with two indoor swimming pools, paddling pools and a landscaped outdoor pool. There’s also a small lake where you can all go boating.
Adults are free to chill on the sun deck, have a hydromassage, go fishing on the lake or join aquagym classes, happy in the knowledge that the accommodation is spacious and comes with a well-equipped kitchen, modern ensuites and lots of indoor space for family downtime. Outside each caravan is a covered terrace for alfresco meals with the kids, but if you’d rather someone else did the catering for you, there’s a family-friendly restaurant/bar and occasional food trucks on site to keep you all fed and watered.

If you can tear your offspring away from the waterslides, the nearest beach is Kerrest (10 minutes’ drive), a wild expanse of sand and pebbles ideal for sunbathing, swimming and surfing. It’s fully accessible and has lifeguards in summer. Further north along the coast is Plage de Trescadec (25 minutes), a sweep of fine sand with volleyball courts.
For dramatic coastal scenery, you won’t beat Pointe du Raz (45 minutes), a rugged granite headland overlooking rocky islets dotted in the ocean; from the promontory you can also see the landmark Tévennec lighthouse on its craggy outcrop. Another well-known lighthouse is at Eckmülh (30 minutes); you can climb to its viewing platform in summer for stunning views over the Penmarc’h peninsula.
Head for Quimper (25 minutes) to have a wander around photogenic old streets lined with pastel-coloured half-timbered houses, admire the Gothic spires of the cathedral and relax in seafood restaurants or crêperies along the River Odet. Kids not big into heritage? Treat them to sharks and rays swimming around aquariums at Aquashow in Audierne (20 minutes).
