There is indeed a lot to like about Camping l’Île d’Amour, a site on the banks of the river Yonne just outside the small town of Pont-sur-Yonne and with a couple of fantastic fishing lakes in its grounds. A peaceful place to rest by the water with the hopes of catching some fine specimens, this park in Burgundy is a top choice whether you’re travelling solo or with family and friends. Having partners in crime for sharing all those bottles of Chardonnay, Chablis and Beaujolais you’re sure to be sourcing in this topnotch wine region does come recommended, though… And if you’re planning a booze-free break? The on-site tennis courts have active types covered (with lessons available) and walks are easy to access right from the grounds despite the park being an hour and a half’s drive away from Paris and an hour and 15 minutes from Disneyland Paris. It's easy to get to too: the site is on Route Nationale 6 and only a 10-minute drive from the A5 and A19 motorways. From Pont Sur Yonne train station 15 minutes' walk away from the site, there is a direct SNCF train to and from Bercy in Paris that takes just over 55 minutes each way. Bikes are available for a half-day rental, giving you enough time to go for a spin beside the Yonne river on a path edging the water or for a ride to the scenic town of Sens (35 minutes’ cycle). This park’s also fantastic for four-legged friends as plenty of green space for scurrying and sniffing is all about; kids also have ample room to race about in the fields too, as well as under the trees and in the play area.

喜欢: Quietness, location close to the village, super friendly and helpful owner, lots of space, birds signing in the morning, closeness to the river for walks, clean facilities and warm(ish) showers.

不喜欢: Wasnt fully clear how to access the site, but call the number and you will be helped very quickly - its easy when you know how!!

喜欢: Camping tranquille, des espace grandes, sanitair propre et suffisant. Acuelle aimable et gentil.
Rustige camping met grote plaatsen. Sanitair is vernieuwd en heel netjes. Het onthaal zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam.

Often dubbed the gateway to Burgundy, Sens (15 minutes’ drive) is a smart choice as a starting point if you’re eager to get to know this part of France. Roam streets full of old-school architecture, including reconstructed sections of Gallo-Roman walls, making sure to drop by the Cathédrale Saint-Etienne de Sens (20 minutes) to spy the stained-glass windows. In the summer, a light display is projected onto this structure’s facade at night. For wanders in nature, flee to the Forest of Fontainebleau, 50 minutes, or stick with urban areas on a trip to Troyes (an hour), a medieval old town made up of narrow cobbled streets covered in colourful 16th-century houses. Once you’ve checked out the churches here – Troyes Cathedral, the Église Sainte-Madeleine and the Basilique Saint-Urbain are top picks – go on to Guedelon castle, an hour and 15 minutes away, which is part of an innovative archaeology project aiming to reconstruct a 13th-century château using time-honoured building techniques.
