Simplicity, nature and family… these are the hallmarks of the family-friendly Camping Le Grun de Chignore, in the Livradois-Forez Natural Park. Circled by forests and mountain summits, touch down at the foot of the mountains in this family-run wildlife haven in the characterful Auvergne village of Vollore-Ville. Friendly owners Laetitia and Jimmy will help you plot your route through forest trails in Ayguebonne or paths towards the sky into the mountains. Within 20 minutes’ drive of Thiers, this site welcomes families, including dogs, to hike or mountain bike their way around the natural park. A slice of the countryside followed by a slice of homemade pizza… the on-site restaurant has an assortment of pizzas, mussels, fries, pierrade and fondues, if you haven’t already filled up at the on-site snack bar. Wash the food down with a drink from the on-site bar, or if you prefer to take care of your own food, get a barbecue going. And not forgetting the most important meal of the day – you can order breakfast to be delivered to your pitch every morning. Handily, the local village of Vollore-Ville, 10 minutes’ walk away, has a food shop with more local products, a bakery and independent shops selling cheese, meat and soaps, for perusal too. This site is well equipped to deal with the demands of a large family, as the playground and swimming pool will help kids blow off any extra steam. And for a bubbly end to the day, adults can look forward to the on-site Jacuzzi or discreet terrace. For lakeside lounging, head to the fishing lake on site stocked full of carp… see if you’ve got the knack for reeling them in. Challenge the family to a game of pétanque if you please or simply retire to TV room for a bit of downtime.

Hike the day away… take on the 10-mile loop of Grun de Chignore (20 minutes’ drive) on foot and pass by wildflowers, hills and woodlands. The local area is full of paths suitable for feet, wheels and even paws… in the forest of Ayguebonne (15 minutes), look out for miniature waterfalls, and a route through to Pierre Pamole (20 minutes), where you can look over the Chaîne des Puys volcanoes from orientation tables set on volcanic stone, and search for Mont Blanc in the distance. More than just shops, the characterful local village of Vollore-Ville (10 minutes’ walk) also has the 12th-century Château de Vollore (15 minutes’ walk), with tapestries and artworks galore. Pack a picnic to keep you going on a trip to Aubusson Lake (10 minutes’ drive), where you can paddle your way around with wild swimming, canoeing or kayaking.

喜欢: This site was so much nicer than we'd envisaged. Large pitches, good shower block, great pizza cafe and wonderful views. Very welcoming atmosphere, quiet and peaceful. The rabbit pen and goat pens were a bonus - never seen such pretty rabbits! The local (tiny) village was pretty for a stroll - found a convenience store, bar and bakery tucked away by the church.

喜欢: We had the site to ourselves so it was lovely and quiet. Could choose our pitch and private use of pool! Warm baguette and croissants ready to collect. Great play area for children and pet rabbits.

不喜欢: Did not affect us but there are limited toilets and washing facilities, which might be an issue during busy times.

Ne vous inquiétez pas pour les sanitaires, il n'y a jamais de file d'attente, c'est un petit camping avec seulement 10 emplacements nus, donc 3 douches et 3 WC, s'est largement suffisant. Les autres ont leurs propres sanitaires.

喜欢: Very quiet, maybe time if year. Good sized well shaded pitches. Excellent pool. Clean showers and toilets

不喜欢: Lukewarm washing up water. Water only available from toilet block, OK for us as we were pitched opposite.

喜欢: Setting in pine forest. Peaceful. Good sized pitches with pleasing privacy. Lovely pool and park. Lovely meal in restaurant. Friendly service.

喜欢: Séjour de 5jours avec les enfants, les jeux pour enfants sont top, nombreux et variés.
La piscine est appréciée pour ces 2 bassins (pour petits et grands)
et les animaux ont bien occupés les enfants!!
nous n'avons manqué de rien coté sanitaires avec papier toilette et le restaurant était très bien, nous nous sommes régalés avec le st Nectaire :-) merci à vous

喜欢: Beautiful setting, view. Very quiet and basic. This is a really nice and simple campsite, i loved the views, the calm, the animals. THere is also a swimming pool. Nice for the kids with a pool and a brand new playground
