In need of some pampering, and fancy being immersed in nature while you’re at it? Head to the Istria countryside for a stay at San Servolo Wellness Camping and Resort. In a scenic hillside spot five minutes’ drive from Buje, this stylish and well-equipped resort is all about encouraging wellness through both relaxation and well-chosen activities.
There are lots of lovely things to do in the surrounding area, including day trips to the coast or food and wine routes to help you explore the best of the region’s wine and local produce (olive oil and truffles being a couple of the most coveted). Hiking, mountain biking and tennis are all close by for those who like to get active in the open air.
That said, this is the kind of place where it would be easy to spend your whole break on site, such is the excellent list of things to do. There are both indoor and outdoor pools to start with, plus a whirlpool spa, a sauna and a selection of massages either indoors or out in the fresh air. A fitness room is on hand for a workout, and for a truly unusual experience you can try out the ‘beer spa’.
Along with all of this, you’ll want to make sure you’ve left time for things like simply strolling around the pretty landscaped site, immersing yourselves in nature and perhaps putting your feet up to watch the sunset.
Naturally, good food and drinks are integral to the idea of wellness – and both are easy to come by here, particularly at the site’s pizzeria and steakhouse.

An important part of ‘wellness’ should of course be consuming plenty of top-notch food and drinks – and a good way to get started on that is to visit some of the local producers. There are wineries and olive oil farms scattered all around these hills, and many of them welcome visitors for a tour and/or a tasting.
You’ll want to feed your brain with fabulous sights too, and that could involve a visit to Grožnjan (15 minutes), known as ‘the town of artists’, a tour of the seafront Sipar Archaeological Site (25 minutes) or some time pottering around Piran (half an hour), a Venetian-style resort on the Slovenian coast.
And there are natural sights too – perhaps a stroll in Skarline Nature Park (15 minutes) or an underground tour of Špilja Mramornica - Grotta del Marmo (15 minutes) or Jama - Grotta Baredine cave (half an hour). Over at the coast, Kanegra beach (15 minutes) is a lovely option, especially at sunset, and Umag (20 minutes) has a beach, watersports and a pretty Old Town.
