Alternatively you can explore the photogenic remains of Cistercian Valle Crucis Abbey, or check out the storied Plas Newydd Historic House and Gardens (both 10 minutes’ drive), a half-timbered Tudor-era mansion with eclectic additions from Victorian times. Travelling with family? Spend the day getting to know rhinos, chimps and lions at Chester Zoo (35 minutes), let the kids run off some excess energy on the treetop ropes at BeWILDerwood Cheshire (40 minutes), or try rafting at the National White Water Centre (45 minutes) in Eryri National Park.
