Dorset apple cake with clotted cream, spankingly fresh seafood, organic cheeses, sumptuous ice cream, lipsmacking local ales – no wonder so many people flock to Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s old stamping ground. The first River Cottage TV shows were filmed at his smallholding near West Bay Holiday Park, where guests are perfectly placed to make the most of the farmers’ markets, restaurants and brewery tours in the pretty neighbouring town of Bridport on Dorset's Jurassic Coast. Don’t forget your bucket and spade: you can walk straight through the gates of the holiday park into West Bay’s scenic harbour and onto the stunning beach which goes on for miles. There’s no shortage of things to do on site either: wallowing about in the indoor pool, which has a separate toddlers’ pool with a slide, as well as a full-sized flume; there's also bike hire, nature trails, eclectic activities for preschoolers to teens in the well-organised kids’ clubs, a great adventure playground with a climbing wall, amusements, and free evening entertainment for the whole family in the Riverside Club. There are good basic amenities on site (including a launderette, shop and off licence, and a cash machine) as well as a bar and café with harbour views if you tire of the washing up.

不喜欢 Cancelled booking without telling me due to rules not listed on here as its a Parkdean resort, also not mentioned! Took 7 or 8 staff members on their live chat to discover this and inform me. Wouldn't have been told if I hadn't chased it up. Shocking communication and very poor customer service. Absolute circus of a company

喜欢 Excellent welcome with a nice friendly welcome. Nice pitch and all set up within 10 minutes. Easy access to the beach and harbour. Only stayed for 1 night but will definitely be returning for a longer stay.

Walks good local for Bridport etc

不喜欢 Heavy rain pitch filled with water and ran through tent. Tents in with motor homes doesn't work couple of noisy neighbours
Shower was constantly running in a cubicle what a waste of water. Showers need updating with more hooks and shower mats.

喜欢 The site had easy access to the town and was easy to find. Andy who greeted us was very friendly and helpful.
The pitches were tiered so nice and level.

不喜欢 Pitch was worn and needed some TLC.
They offer entertainment, but this was based mainly on children.
The Swimming pool, an attraction for me, was only open very limited hours and is totally closed on a Monday, so not able to use.
The Pizza box is only open a few nights and none during our 3 night stay.
The food and drinks were expensive, better to buy fish and chips over the road or take a short walk to the welcoming George Inn.
The showers were hot, but very basic. The gent’s showers had no hook on most of the doors, so no where to keep clothes dry, and the door to the ladies block, in a thoroughfare, was always open.

Start on the doorstep in West Bay itself: you could go fossil hunting underneath the sandstone cliffs, crabbing in the harbour, take a boat tour of the Jurassic Coast, or head out into the big blue yonder on a sea fishing trip; then there’s golf, paragliding, scuba diving, watersports, and excellent walking along the coastal paths… Take a break from feeding yourself up on all the gorgeous local produce to hand feed the birds at Abbotsbury Swannery, where the 600 nesting mute swans make for an impressive sight (and plenty of hungry beaks); there are also award-winning gardens and a kids' farm to explore. The coastal resort of Lyme Regis has been drawing the crowds since time immemorial and is well worth a visit; other historical gems in West Dorset include the Jacobean manor house of Mapperton, set amongst topiary, terraced gardens and rolling hills; Forde Abbey and gardens; a cluster of castles; and the giant chalk man in the hillside at Cerne Abbas. Alternatively, if there are animal addicts in your party, they'll go ape for the 240-plus inhabitants of Monkey World and potty for the penguins and underwater specimens at Weymouth Sea Life Park.
